I'm sure everyone outside of Boston hopes not. The fact is they will finish behind the Yankees and Blue Jays in the division well out of any playoff contention.

Those who say that the wildcard will come out of the Central are missing an important point. Since there is so much strength in that division, and they have to face each other so often, they will be knocking each other off all the time. It is actually an advantage (when it comes to qualifying as the wildcard) to not be in the Central Division.

Beyond that, I think the Red Sox will win the East anyway. (1)Their rotation will prevail - it has the potential to be one of the best ever. It will be so strong that they will put Papelbon back in the bullpen where he had had one of the best seasons in history last year. (2) Their kid pitchers (Hansen, Delcarmen etc) now have part of a season behind them and will emerge as strong middle relievers. (3) Shilling will have the kind of pre free agency season you'd expect of a blowhard like him (4) They have plugged the holes in their lineup with Lugo and Drew and given up very little on defense (5) Coco Crisp's finger is almost back to normal - he was a cripple most of last year and (6) the Yankees are relying on a rookie to give their rotation any credibility.

the central is always tough and the wild card will probably not come from the east. If the Sox beat the Yankies then YES, but I think the Yanks are usually a lock for the playoffs. It depend on a hot start like Detroit had last year. If the Sox can get a lead in the race early then they will have a better chance.

Not even close. How can u say that the rotation is any good. Matsuzaka hasn't pitched against MLB hitters like Pujols and Jeter, and Papelbon hasn't shown anything as a starter either. This is the year Ortiz gets hurt and falls off the map, Manny be's Manny a little 2 often and gets reprimanded, then cries. Who's ur closer anyway.

Try 82 - 80, a .500 ball club at best.

The RedSox have a good shot of making it to the playoffs this year. It will be a very interesting season to say the least. You should pay a lot of attention to what goes on in the central divison this year as that will determine Boston's fate.

Yes I won't say we will win the whole thing but playoffs yes oh and Dice K won't pitch against Pujols he's in the NL and he has pitched against MLB players his team won the World Baseball Championship last year in which a lot of MLB players played including Jeter and Ortiz.

Not only will the make the playoffs, they will win the whole enchilada. Ever hear of Disuke Matsuzaka (He was throwing 101 mph today). David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, J.D. Drew, Varitek having a break out year, Schilling with every thing under control, etc. Who would have the nerve to bet against them?

They must win the division, as the Central is loaded and will probably provide the wildcard. I see them battling New York right down to the final weekend. They will win if Dice-K gets 15 or more wins. If not, they will fall short.
