First off I think your work ethic has a lot to be desired. Your first action after falling asleep in a meeting is to post a question on Answers? whoaa...you really need a real wake up call in every sense of the word.

You will probably not be fired, but you shouldn't be expecting any bonuses for outstanding work either. Even though everyone laughed, it doesn't mean things fine. The Pres. and VP probably have a much dimmer view of you. That image is something tough overcome. If your immediate superior was at the meeting, they are also embarrassed by how you represented them.

So if you are looking to control damage, you have a couple of choices. You can either take the route of lying your way out of it. The "new medicine", "fighting a cold" excuse is a time tested classic...but also pretty lame...or you might try a radical approach.

Try acting mature and responsible. Go to your boss and apologize for any embarrassment you might have caused. Promise to not let it happen again, and then work hard to rebuild your rep with your boss.

I know personally, that it would be a refreshing change to have someone take responsibility and act mature. That will take you a lot further than a quickie lie that although might be believed...won't be winning you any points with the powers that be.

I love forward to a time when I can sit and read poetry by 50 or more people compiled into one book. I also look forward to the next book in 2009. As long as I have something to look forward to, I don't look back. Long Live Us All! ps: USPS, TD's right! Ever since being privatized, your service is the pits!

start sucky sucky. LOL!!! Or just act like you dont care. I almost got fired for sleeping and all that. They tried making a big deal out of it and threatenin to fire me, I just acted like it was nothing. I told them I was the most productive personnel they had this year and acted like I didn't care if they were mad. I went back to work and that was the last of it. With my job there is no mistakes or second chances. You screw up once and you're gone. Especially right now, they're trying to get rid of people. They laughed so who cares

Although it may have been embarassing, there is little chance you'd get fired from something like that. To get in good grace again, try to forget about the event and do whatever it is you do as well as you can. Perhaps everyone else will forget about it as well.

Of course not, it is obvious that the cough syrup or cold meds or allergy pills had a side effect that you were not aware of thus making you say one bad word in your question and fall asleep in the meeting, shame on them for laughing at you.....go home, hop into bed and get plenty of rest. luckily it is Friday so everyone will forget about it by Monday , ( or they will act like they do) lol

Ouch, sweetie that's really bad. I don't know if you will get fired but that is kind of a big deal. I would jokingly say I'm going to get some coffee, and ask if they would like some. If you acknowledge what you did and make a joke about it they might let it slide. Say something like, I'm going to grab a cup of coffee, god know I need one, can I get you anything while I'm there? Hey, it's worth a shot!

well I would be embarassed if it happened to me!.... As far as getting fired, I don't know how strict your bosses are or if you can laugh with them.... My bosses are pretty cool, so I would just be able to go in their offices and apologize without any ramifications..... If you have a good relationship with both of them or even one of them, you may want to go in and just say sorry... if not don't even bother saying anything, but be on your good behavior for a bit... good luck!

Thanks I was sitting on the phone listening to a juvenile court judge drone on & on & on telling me the same stuff they always say. I saw your question and clicked on it I started snickering and could not stop or get my hand over the phone fast enough. He wanted to know what I found so funny about the law ! I had to say I was trying not cough, allergies cough ,cough. Thanks for the mental picture. You will be OK just use the allergy med reason.

nah, that alone won't get you fired; that is: if you work with the Pres and VP. If you are a consultant and met with them, then, yeah, you'll get the axe by your superior who would have been at that meeting too.
