My husband is a mechanic and a few weeks ago he put in a fuel pump for this woman.. turns out her fuel guage was also off and had to be replaced. she payed for the fuel pump installation not the installation of the control panel or whatever it is called. well she has been calling my husband's job relentlessly. She wanted him to do the work for free... so last night my husband's boss called here after hours my husband gets off from work at 5 and this was 6:30 and left a message on my voicemail that if my husband did not go over there and install the panel that he would take a 100 dollars out of my husband's check and give to the woman.. I kept the message... I know he cant do that what legal recourse should I do if that does happen? any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance.

let me add a little more info.. My husband was contracted to put the fuel pump in only the fuel pump was near the gas tank under the car. the fuel guage in the dash was bad to begin with and it doesnt matter whether or not she paid for the new control panel or not my husband put in the fuel pump why should he pay her a hundred dollars for something he had no control of? she was trying to get extra work for nothing

One is harrassment, the other extorsion. Both are illegal, your local Police Dept. should be quite helpful.

The woman would of had to pay for the insturment cluster if it had been cought when her car was in origionally. So, if she's going to be a pain, have your husband suggest a 50/50 split with her. Your husband's boss cannot take money out of his check for this. If he does, go above his bosses head and if that doesn't work, go higher. The only way they can dock his pay is if he BROKE it himself. Call a lawyer that handles civil things along these lines. Hope this helps!

Well,
It seems his boss wants the job done for the woman. Apparently the boss feels she had this work coming. I am quite sure the boss didn't expect your husband to personally cover this so something must not be as it sounds. Apparently the boss wants the job done. He probably, legally, can't take money from your husband, but he legally can fire him.....might want to think this one over.......
Might be better to go put the panel in,.....

Was the fuel pump bad? What was the womans original complaint? Was the car running or was the gauge off? Thats two different repairs.

i am confused...if your husband works for someone else, then the shop owner would take the loss.

your husband should still get paid-- if the shop owner wants to not charge the woman, that is his business.

your husband should have just told her to call the shop owner (his boss) because that is the responsible party. if a mechanic screws something up, the company that hired him is at fault not him personally.

Tracy,
The best quick answer I could give you is to call your husbands boss attorney he should be able to point you in the right direction without charge. If not many attorneys advertise that they will give you 30 minutes free time. You might try that. Good Luck!!!
