A question from the continent.
Here in merry ol´ germany last week we had carneval. Some men disguised themselves as a cowboy. One of my friends disguised as blue smurf, said then
" we all have to get more americanized."
What do you think he was meaning?
What the british people do think about?

Sounds like an offhand comment by a half-drunk person who hoped to sound witty.
"America" is a "melting pot" of many cultures and many "wild and crazy" dreams. Wherever you live, if you're using a computer, it's guaranteed that some of your relatives are over here making "America" whatever it is. And we celebrate "the old country" with many holidays: Octoberfest, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Chinese New Year, Hanukkah. We enjoy the music, costumes, and food from other countries through theme parties, International Food Festivals and Internation Food Courts in malls. We're crazy about some of British T.V. and we watch Brit movies and now a lot of Aussie nature shows. And soap operas in Spanish, trying to learn the language! And Indian movies and radio.
We sincerely hope that the entertainment other countries receive in export from us will Never take away the zest of their individuality! I.e., "play cowboy" all you want, but please, don't Ever "become Americanized"!

I think the Rammstein song Amerika, sums up most people's opinion of the Americanisation of everything. Take a listen to both the English and German versions.

Hello there i am from the UK and i think every culture, citizenship and ethnic group is changing as the world becomes smaller. As communications and transport improve the communities of the world are drawn closer together their opinions, likes, dislikes etc rubbing off on each other. America is the largest and most powerful country in the world and i think far from us "having" to get more Americanized its happening right now without our consent or attention really. In Britain our children grow up with Barney the American dinosaur and Sesame Street etc so they are picking up American language from birth not that im bothered i think the worlds becoming a melting pot, and thats great :)

One of the people anwering your question made me laugh! He said "You have to dumn down". It's spelled ' DUMB', you dummy.
In answer to your question, the British ARE being more and more Americanised. It's inevitable! We have this culturally powerful neighbour who speaks the same language as we do, with its all-powerful movie and music industry. We retain our heritage and most of our traditions, but slowly and insidiously, we are being Americanised. It's how cultures evolve. It's not something you have to get all worked up about, like the French do.

Why would we all want to become more 'americanized'?
This would mean voting in a lunatic president who takes us into illegal wars and believes that he has a direct link with 'god'.
This would mean that we all believed that the bible is the gospel truth and that god created the universe in a week about 6,000 years ago.
This would mean that we all ran around with guns shooting animals and children while their in school.
I could not think of anything worse than becoming more like the Americans.
They really are the scum of the earth!!

I'm sorry, but American is something I NEVER would aspire to being. Any people that can constantly vote in that idiot George Dubya Bush are only worthy of scorn.

We have it written in the British constitution that if that day ever arose, we will all turn up in force to be shot.
There is irony in this statement (if you look)
