Just insert it in your floppy drive. If you don't have a floppy drive (or don't know what a floppy drive is) insert it in your CD/DVD tray, or just tape it to the bottom of the laptop.
PS. If your 512 of RAM that is already on your machine is made up of 2-256 sticks, you won't have another bank for the 256 stick you are wanting to install. Since you don't know how to install it, I am guessing you don't know where to look to know what is already installed. It's a good thing to know HOW to do something before you buy the stuff to do it with.

reminiscence modules generally must be further in pairs--so in case you have 2 empty slots (for 2 256 sticks) your in employer: a million. examine the instruction manual that got here with the motherboard 2. Open the computing gadget up and count kind the entire slots and the empty slots. 3. generally must be performed in pairs and no count if this is a computing gadget, it in all hazard takes as much as a entire of three Gigs -- yet examine. in case you haven't got the instruction manual, flow to the positioning for the board or call a broker like Egg Head or Tiger Direct..they are going to look it as much as make a potential sale. finally, shop around for value and get ECC (blunders correcting) if accessible, and discover out what the MHZ (velocity) the sticks might desire to be to be properly suited. mandatory makes arguably the final yet no longer maximum inexpensive. finally, reminiscence is far less costly at present. in spite of in case you need to toss your latest sticks,, i desire to propose going for a entire of a minimum of a million GIG, ideally 2. No different substitute could have this manner of dramatic effect, it fairly is elementary (you're able to do it your self) and much less costly. do no longer forget approximately to alter your internet site record or digital reminiscence to 2.5 cases the actual reminiscence and in case you have 2 hard drives, positioned the internet site record on the NON BOOT rigidity.

are you talking laptop or tower case?
if laptop then you may only have one slot(some do)
if tower case then on the mobo there will be two or more long white slots in which to insert the memory into. some are paired sets which are coloured(depends on mobo) i would check your user manual as you have not provided enough details for us really.
