April is nice because the weather isn't quite as warm. But, if you go in April (except the last week) you will be going during one of the busiest times. The end of April and then May are still busy, but not as busy as the rest of April, because the spring break time frame is over.
In may, it is also a little more rainy than April, so that can be a downfal for it as well.
The temperatures in April are usually perfect, and really nice for swimming and such. The waterparks can stay open all year in Orlando, because it is warm enough, and the water is usually heated.
Both April and May are going to be about the same. But, in April you will have heaveir crowds unless you go the last week, the weather won't be as warm and you will probably have less rain. In May, you will have heavy crowds, but not as bad as April and then the weather will be a little warmer and there may be more rain.

Here is the AVERAGE weather for Orlando during the months of April and May, your mileage may vary.
April:
Average High Temperature: 82ºF
Days about 90ºF: 2
Average Low Temperature: 60ºF
Days with Lows below Freezing: 0
Average Rainfall Amount: 2.0"
Days With Rain: 5
Days with Thunderstorms: 3
Days with Fog: 12
May:
Average High Temperature: 87ºF
Days about 90ºF: 9
Average Low Temperature: 66ºF
Days with Lows below Freezing: 0
Average Rainfall Amount: 3.2"
Days With Rain: 9
Days with Thunderstorms: 8
Days with Fog: 13
The water at all of the Water Parks is temperature controlled year-round. The water at both parks is heated and the water temperature is around 75 – 80 degrees. There are two exceptions. The Shark Reef at Typhoon Lagoon, and the melting snow in the ice cave of Cross Country Creek at Blizzard Beach.
The water parks can close due to poor weather conditions (storms).
With an average high temp. over 80F, I don't think you'll have too much of a problem with the water parks or beaches.

I went to Florida both in April and in May for the last 3 years, 2004 I went in May and it stunk, it ended up raining/cloudy on 6 of the days we were there and finally the day we left was when we finally got to see the sun. 2005 we went in the middle of April and the weather was gorgeous but the parks were mobbed. Last year we went the last week in April and it was perfect! weather was really nice, perfect swimming weather and the parks weren't that packed at all. This year I have decided to celebrate my birthday at Disney and I am hoping the weather holds up for me on April 21st!! From previous experiences I would suggest going to Florida the last week of April if you can. Have a great time!!! :-)

The water parks are open year round. I'm from Fl and I would recomend Sept. Most of the tourist are going home and it's still warm enough to enjoy the water parks with out freezing your butt off. The lines are shorter at the parks that time of year too. Shhh... don't tell anyone else I told you that.(lol)

Sept thru Mid Nov I have found to be perfect. Nice weather (not too hot, cold, or rainy) and the lines at the parks are almost non-existant.

Best time to go to florida is when it is not peak season such as summer or winter.
