I'm 41. I think I've got a handle on how to not dress like I'm trying to recapture my lost youth. But I wonder if it's possible for me to dress in a way that could be making me look older, and if so how can I know I'm doing it and how can I prevent it. Can anyone tell me?

If you dress sophisticatedly, you won't look old. Also, it's possible to dress in a way that looks sexy but conservative. That doesn't make you look old either.

What you want to avoid, is dressing "girly." Only girls between 16-20 have the looks and body to get away with that sexy look.

Yes, men do find the girly look attractive, but we also find sophisticated or "conservative and sexy" to be attractive too.

Avoid tight sexy jeans with those butterfly patches and that popular girly white seatbelt like belt. Also avoid long circular ear rings. Again, they are sexy, but only on younger females.

What would look good (and sexy) on a 41 year old woman would be: dark blue jeans with long high heels, long sleeved solid color shirt that shapes your upper body nicely without showing cleavage. You can also wear skirts and show your legs which looks good too but don't try to do the "hooker look." It looks very unappealing on older woman. Glasses can even look good on older woman if your hair's don't nicely to match it and your face is made up properly. Make up is very important in the 40s. Obviously, the face will be older looking, but with gentle applications of foundation, you'll look great.

I've seen many women in their 40s who look great; the one's who try too hard to look girly failed, the ones who stayed within their element looked hot. Do avoid certain styles that does make an older woman look even older. Unironed clothes, outdated styles, puffy hair style from the Pat Benetar ear will really make you look old. Stay contemporary and modern.

Most importantly, believe in yourself and exude confidence. Sometimes, that alone can take off 10 years from your age.

i'm 31 and characteristic a tremendous body. I wont placed on shorts that are not below my finger practise at the same time as status upright with my hands at my sides. It seems acceptable. in the journey that they are too on the point of my knees they offer the effect of being chopped off. Too short and nicely you'll look "affordable and straightforward" Take care, Jen

Don't wear trousers with elasticated waists, (or skirts )gaudy earings or too much gold or any sort, beige clothes, fussy tops, zip up anoraks, gold shoes, (a sure sign your turning into an 'oul wan').

The minute you choose ultimate comfort over ANY sort of style is the day you start dressing too old for your age.

If you feel like you're dressing too old, then dont dress that way. But also, please dont try dressing like a teenager. I've seen a lot of older women dressed like teenagers to try to make themselves feel young. That's not making them look young and they should feel ridiculous. Try copying a maniquine at a really fashionable store at the mall...and no, not at the Gap or Forever 21. Lane Bryant has some really nice, sophisticated looks and although it is a plus size store, you dont actually have to get your clothes there, just check out their styles. I think the best look for a women in her 40s is something business casual. Something fresh, yet sophisticated. Like this:

Well you get the idea... I hope this helps. If I knew your size it would be so much easier to find examples.

you are still young, but if you are worried got to a beauty salon and look at all the magazines at how people are dressed. Your age group is well represented and that may give you an idea.

Just don't dress like you're 20 cuz people will know that you obviously aren't 20 and you'll look ridiculous. Check out older models in catalogues like: Sears, Eatons, The Bay (I dunno where you're from and what stores you have). They usually dress fashionably, but tastefully and they look good.

yes it is possible. try asking your friends, co-workers and family members what they think about how you dress since they see you most often.
