Obvioulsy you are dealing with people that are rude and unconsiderate. Simply tell them that was a rude comment and that you feel offended and insulted.
With those type of friends, who needs enemies?
Don't waste your time and money with defamation suits. Be the better person and either laught it off and reply witha sassy remark (i.e. no, I didn;t drown swimming on the Rio grande and No I didn;t pay a Coyote either )
Or be equally rude and say: " Obviulsy you have never been to Europe, thankfully I don't neeed to come here for work or money, and your rude remark is obviulsy fueled by ignorance"
or say
" I'll tell you when you tell me why are people here all overweight, including you."
or
Good luck

No you can't sue someone for assuming that you got married for papers. YOU chose to marry a man who is a U.S. Citizen, so in essence you CHOSE to take whatever came along as a result. If you didn't want the questions of "papers" to come up then you shouldn't have married him...Nope you can't sue anyone else for the CHOICES that YOU make.

They're just really horrible. I came over to america with my family 5 years back and everyones like "I wonder if they're legal?" It really hurts doesn't it! I know another lady that just got married to an american citizen and everyone asks her the same thing and its horrible! These people think we're here because America's much better than their old countries. Talking from a teen's point of view. England beats America hands down,so much more culture. I bet yours was too!

It's amazing that you’ve just recently moved here and you've already adopted the American philosophy of 'sue everybody for everything'.
If all they are doing is asking you, then no, that's not grounds for a lawsuit. Even if they tell everyone that they think that's why you married him, that's still not grounds for a lawsuit. They have a right to state their opinion.
With all that said, do I think they're jerks? Yes, I do. But being a jerk is not grounds for a lawsuit either.

No you cannot sue here. Freedom of speech. Just tell them its none of their business or just plain ignore them. You can also answer them yes for a marriage document and it cost about $75.00 for the marriage license and leave it at that. They really dont need to know your business and you do not ever have to prove anything to anyone outside of law enforcement authorities or the courts. Good luck

Unless they've given you a photo release to sign, sure you can sue. Since you've gone public with your question, hopefully the person who posted the YouTube video with you in it doesn't see this and remove it. If that happened, you'd have no proof, and no case.

you can't sue someone for stating their opinion to you. now if they published it in a magazine or a billboard you might have a case, but until then you have to defend yourself, not threaten them with lawsuits, lol...

Simply tell them you married for love not for papers, and that you don't appreciate their rude remarks. Period.
