hi,
when my hamster was a few days away from dieing, he was acting disoriented, active but he would wander around, looking, sniffing, pawing. we didnt know he was dieing.
what i was wondering was : if i would have taken him to the vet, could the vet have done anything to help him, to make him live longer? or was that a natural hamster death?
he died peacefully, by the way.
thanx!

yes, we had thought of a heart attack or stroke. we had our suspicions, but we wanted him to be comfortable when he died. he died around 5 in the moring while a family member was holding him. i guess going to the vet wouldnt have helped. also, if it was a heart attack or stroke, would he have been in pain?

depends what he was going through. if you would've known he was dying, then to me it would have been worth it, to see the vet.sometimes the vet can help, and sometimes they can't, but im sure he lived a happy life.

im sorry for your loss :(

It could have been your hamster was going blind and her was confused. That happen es to some hamsters as they get older. They can't see and some time they will loose there hearing.
The vet would not be able to do anything for it.

I am not sure if the vet could've helped. That depends on what made the hamster die. I would assume, however, that taking to the vet may have at least shed light on the situation.

Syrian hamsters live 2-3 years, sometimes longer - not just a bit over a year -

Small animals like hamsters are very tricky to treat, they don't live long anyway 12 to 18 months usually and if they do get sick there's often nothing that could have been done. Don't feel too bad about it,

he probably had a stroke, that is a little bleed in the brain, and no ammount of treatment could have saved him, hamsters only live just over a year

it sounds to me like it was a natural death. ours did the same thing and the vet just told us to keep him comfortable.
