as silly as it sounds, its the drums. the drums always give the base beat for everyone else to follow off of. The drummer is the true leader.

Can't have a band with just one instrument unless it's the guitar or keyboards.. I've never seen Bob Dylan sing blowing in the wind, playing a drum set(nor would I want to). Need a rhythm section. With a keyboard, you can play melody, chord changes, and bass lines. So.. I guess I'd say keyboards.

That's a loaded question because it depends on the style of music. I think at the core, though, music is about movement and rhythm and being a bass player for many years, part of the rhythm section, I'd have to say drums/percussion/whatever noise maker that is keeping the TIME.

That's an opinion. To different people, different instruments stand out. It's what other people prefer

Probably drums, they usually keep the beat. Everyone else kinda follows.

i always thought it was drums, until we didn't have a bass player for a while. the bass goes unnoticed alot, but it fills a huge hole in the rythm section, and if ya got no rythm, ya got no music.
