I have managed before without a computer but only because I was occupied with other activities throughout the day. It is hard to know whether I could or not, I will prob need my computer to do my work or I may be a bit stuck as I rely on computers. Interesting question, I didn't know that there was even a shutdown day!!!

Why not? Walking in the forest, looking to the sky, hearing the singing of birds, running a kite, using a bicycle, listen the wind, play football with children... A lot of activities that can be done without computer, without using a car, without ... polluting our planet. And for sure, our grand-grandchildren will say "Thank you!" to us.
How many computers are staying on in houses when the owners are away? And for what?

I could definately live without it. When we had the bad wind storms here in Washington state just before Christmas we were without power for 6 days. 24 hours would be a snap.

Why in the world would we want to in the first place! Seems like a very stupid idea to me. Unless it will bring a cure to AIDS or something like that, then sure I would.
Asking for a shut down of computers is like asking for people not to use there cars.. It will never happen.

What is the point? Ignorance?
Just try unplugging your CLOCK for the day. How about NOT driving anywhere that day? How about turning off all electrical devices for the day? Try unplugging your phone for the day? Do all of these sound silly?
I'll be on still.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Would be no problem with me -- I never DO use my computer over the weekend. That is my private time with my husband. But I'll go check this out and take a look -- sounds interesting.

yes, absolutely yes,why not! its only one day.
my work need a computer(graphic designer),but if that day happen, and it's only one day,so i can work without it though. there are lots of thing that i can work by my hands, then waiting for the day after to complete it by computer.
but if the time take more than one day,i'm sure i will go crazy.
