In silence we grow. This is a time for reflection and thought. If you can totally relax your body then you can enjoy meditation, which is a plus to your health. Actually, either way silence is very beneficial to us health wise, and it allows us to better hear and understand others.

Boy, you just got a whole bag full of witty answers to ponder. Silent people are generally well disciplined for one reason or another. For example, How many veterans do you know who are loud and annoying. I'don't mean ex-service members; I mean people who have been in combat. Silence most likely once saved there butt. You may not understand what I mean, but I hope you do. Look around you. Always notice the silent ones because we always notice you.

Silence can mean a lot of things.

There are awkward silences.

Beautiful silences.

Peaceful silences.

Foreboding silences.

Angry silences.

But my favorite is the silence between two people who know each other so well that nothing has to be said.

It helps your brain steady reorder itself. Silence help you think best. Silence also give me the feeling that the world had suddenly stopped for me.

When we are quiet we can contemplate what occurs around us and what we have heard but not have had time to think about. The guy who said we can hear God when we keep quiet must hear voices and assume that it is God speaking to him. The old saying that silence is golden probably refers to taking time to not speak but to think. Many cultures value meditation and for good reason. In a fast paced, very, very loud culture that bombards us with sensory stimuli you do not have time to consider, ponder or evaluate much. That is the value of silence.
