I think it happened to mandesa last year. She was awesome! But Reuben made it to the final 2. I think they judge girls more harshly for their weight than they do the boys. So unfair!

Two words: Reuben Studdard. He broke the sterotype.
I vote for voice, always. Chris Sligh has been a favorite of mine since he auditioned. If Lakesha doesn't make at least top 5 I will be shocked. She should go farther.

No...no winner has been really "thin." Reuben was larger than Lakesha & he won. I think, at least when it comes to a contest like this, that we can get over the looks and vote on the talent.

I agree. i'm British and each and all of the yankee females i've got heard seem fairly severe pitched. not sure if there is a lot of a distinction between adult adult males' voices nonetheless. The pitch of a voice for sure varies from individual even nonetheless it rather is obtainable to generalise. Social norms of a u . s . a . or section influence a voice very much. as an occasion, in Japan the two men and girls human beings use a lots bigger pitch than interior the united kingdom or u . s . a .. Oddly, a impressive style of British or American human beings would not even have the means to talk that top-pitched via fact they at the instant are not used to it.

I agree with a previous poster - Mandisa was amazing last year but didn't make it probably because she didn't have that Idol image. Ruben made it farther probably because he didn't have much competition. Why would anyone want Clay Aiken to win!?
So although Lakisha is an extraordinary singer, I doubt she makes it to the top 4 - beauty has too much of an influence these days.

No, the world is full of talented famous people who are, or have been oversized. All of the people in the world are beautiful in their hearts, and most of the ones that suceeded in life have let that beauty shine. If Lakesha continues to let her heart shine thru her voice, she will win the public vote.

i think she can make it pretty far, at least into the top 8, but there's no way she can win. remember Mandeesa from a couple seasons ago? She was probably the best singer from that season, but she went out about 6 or 7. I know Studdard won in season 2, but i think men and woman are held to different standards when it comes to their weight. Plus the big gap in her teeth doesn't help her cause either.

If people do they need to get help !!! Who would vote of LaKisha ??? She can belt her song out...who cares about her size ??? If she wins I'm sure she will get a weight trainer but who cares ?? The competition is about SINGING not vote off the heaviest person !!!

Not all the time, but I think it definitely has an effect. American Idol is usually looking for a "pop star" And pop stars are usually thin. (britney, christina, jo-jo, jessica simpson, etc)

My mom does.. I don't know Mandisa got pretty far last year.. I think people do vote on appearance sometimes though.. I think if Katharine Mcphee wasn't so pretty she would've been voted off instead of Chris last year
