Also, when its tail comes off, does it bleed? Our class just got a chinchilla and we are researching it.

I think the term you are looking for is a Violet. When their tail comes off it basically strips the skin off, yes it will bleed and will need vet attention to heal it. When you hold a chinchilla hold it at the base of the tail as close as you can to the tush, this will help you safely keep the chinchilla from jumping out of you hands and running away.
