Everytime a vicar is in the paper or on the news, it always seems to be regarding sex, kids or adultery! Would you still class them as an upstanding member of society?

Invite one to tea and find out!
Go to the kitchen but have a surveillance camera trained on the vicar. If your theory is correct he'll probably whip it out and have a quick one off the wrist while you're fetching the biscuits.

I love wildamberhoney's plane crash/vicar sex crime analogy! Brilliant image, like vicars are potent like planes, but liable to crash and explode at any moment with all that unrestrained energy!

It is very unreasonable to stereotype vicars as bad guys because of a few bad hats. There are many vicars worldwide that are held in high esteem for good work they do and leadership they provide.

That's being ridiculous-you only rarely hear about those who have done something bad. Think about how many thousands of priests and vicars out there who are only interested in contributing positively towards their community.

A vicar who commits a sexual offence is news. 100's of vicars who do not (and most don't) is not news. Simple as that.

Hmmmmm well i don't really know if i qualify, but coming from a Catholic community, a Priest is the head of religion in a "Parish".
I am not from Craggy Island....but Father Ted, Jack and Dougal bear a frightening resemblance to the three Priests where i lived.....So from that i conclude 1 in every 3 priests are sex pests.

Not all vicars, some are dead.

That's equivalent to asking if all planes crash, and therefore questioning whether it is safe to fly at all, on account of a (relatively) small percentage of horrible incidents.

But somehow I think you knew that already...

Don't be silly. It just makes good headlines when one is exposed.
