Black Sunday is very good (man Harris can write psychos), but has nothing to do with Lecter. Red Dragon is first in the group, followed by Silence, and finally Hannibal. I really liked the book Hannibal, but the movie left a lot to be desired. You don't have to start with Dragon, but it helps to understand Lecter and his character/motivation.
