You have a couple of options. First, if you will be staying onsite, you can then take Magical Express from your hotel back to the airport. If you won't be going to the airport after Disney, and your plans aren't set in stone yet, you could switch Disney and Universal and then take Magical Express to your room. It is free, so it won't always be the perfect option, but it does save you money.

Mears is another option, and will probably be your least expensive option. I agree with sarge927. Mears is not perfect and it can take a while to wait on the bus and/or get to your hotel. You have no idea when you will be dropped off and it can take a while, especially if everyone is at different resorts. You may get lucky and only have a few resorts, or get dropped off first, but it is hard to tell.

What I always do is take a private transfer. They are fairly inexpensive for what you get. The service is fantastic, they pick you up at baggage claim, take you to the car (can be a towncar, van or limo depeding on what you buy or need) load your luggage and you will be to your resort in about 30 minutes. I find it to be the most convenient way and fastest as well. Roundtrip to your resort from the airport and then your resort to the airport, usually run about $100, then you would have to add in your transfer from Universal to Disney and the tip. So you are probably looking at less than $200. I use Premier Towncar and they have been really good. I have used a few other companies in the past, but a popular thing with some of these companies is not to show. Premier was one of the first I had used that was right on time, showed up for all my transfers and always confirmed the rest of my trips for that vacation.

Taxi would be another option for a faster transfer. However, they add up pretty quick and it is almost always cheaper to go with a private transfer.

Finally, you could rent a car. If you don't mind the driving in Orlando, you can usually get a better deal on a rental car than a private transfer with several transfers. But, you would have to know where you are going, deal with traffic etc. So it is really just a matter of your personal preference.

Hope this helps! Have a great time!

DO NOT go with Mears!!! They used to be a good deal but now they're the worst. The last time we did Mears we had to wait for over an hour at Orlando Airport (this is after we got our bags and were ready to go) before we got transportation, and they pack a bunch of people into a bus or van and drive them all over the place, so it's very possible that you'll be the last person dropped off. Then on the return trip they didn't have enough room for everyone because they didn't plan properly (despite the fact that we called in and confirmed the day before) so we almost didn't make our plane on the way out.

We were just in Orlando in January and went with Prestige Town Car, and they were GREAT!!! They had a guy waiting for us in the baggage claim area who was very nice and helped us with our luggage. He drove us straight to our resort and we didn't even have to call and confirm for the return trip -- he showed up promptly at 11:30, just like he said he would. Since there were four of us it ended up being cheaper than Mears. Even if it's just you and one other person I would still recommend Prestige over Mears -- the extra $20.00 or so is worth it not to have the hassle that Mears puts you through.

Mears is probably one of the best transportation companies in Orlando. They have different types of vehicles depending on what your needs are e.g. minivans, luxury limos. If you are renting a car - there are tons of great rental agencies in Florida (Hertz, Budget, National, Thrifty) - I like Alamo myself - fast service, cheap rates, unlimited mileage.
