I have trouble focusing in the morning, I always have. No matter what time I go to sleep, whether it be 9pm or 1am, I'm always tired. I don't drink coffee; only water and tea in the morning, and I often eat a light breakfast; e.g. a cereal bar or yogart. As a result, the food makes me even more tired when I already was.
Cold classrooms make me sleep, as do warm classrooms...and I'm rather good at falling asleep sitting straight up. I've made sleeping in class an art.
But now I am in college and I'm almost at an ends here. My teacher is fusterated that I cannot stay awake and I am fusterated that I am -not- awake to take notes.
What are good morning foods for energy? Good drinks? Good methods in class for staying awake?
Oh, I also often close at my job and after getting home, I'm wide awake from all the excitement and fun (I work at a Cold Stone Creamery). How can I wind down and relax in a decent amount of time?
'kay, I wish you all luck with this!

Try taking a hot bath when you get home from work. I work 2nd shift at a hospital, and when i get home around 12 i'm wide awake too. i found that sitting in a hot bath for a few minutes makes me very sleepy. its good because after getting home at 12, i usually have a 7 or 8 a.m. class to get to.

also, for breakfast...the best option is something healthy. and it looks like you have already been doing that (cereal like cornflakes or smart start, bagel, toast, yogurt). actually, i like to pour a bowl of cornflakes, and instead of using milk, i mix in yogurt. its very good and very nutritious.

Your chocies: !) Get a coffee, hot tea, or energy drink before you go to the class. 2) Sit next to the hottest girl in the class. 3) Read the section of the book before you go to the class. 4) Pick another class that you interest in or professors that are fun. 5) Sleep eariler the night before that. 6) Work on homework for another class, since you can't focus on the learning anyway. You might get your HW done and you can relax. 7) Do a little exercise before you go to class. (Ex: Push up, sit up, run a mile, etc...) 8) Bring a laptop if professor allow, then sit on the last row play games or watch video if you like. 9) Listen to IPod if allow. 10) Read a book that you like (Ex: comic, magnize, text book,etc...) 11) Make conversion to a neighbor, but make sure your neighbor is struggle with the same situation so you don't distract him form learning. 12) Draw picture or do something that you like, but make sure you don't distract other people. If none of the methods work, I suggest you to get someone phone number in the class (more than one person just in case). Copy their notes, not HW after class or during your free time so you won't miss everything that the professors talk about. Usually it works.

Eat a bigger breakfast so you have more energy. Also, keep a few pieces of chocolate in your pocket to keep you perked up throughout class.
A good way for you to wind down is to take a warm bath, or listen to some soothing music. Nothing that'll get you excited, like rap or techno. Something light, like Twelve Girls Band maybe. The artists that I can always fall asleep while listening to are: Twelve Girls Band, James Blunt, Jay Chou, and Ung Hoang Phuc. Try those to wind you down in the evening.
Good luck!

I agree with the recommendation for a hot bath to help you settle down to go to sleep after getting off from work.

For the morning wake-up, have your tea and have some protein (maybe just 1/2 pb&j sandwich).

The military has you stand in the back of the class if you have difficulty staying awake. It is pretty normal to have at least one person standing in the back at different points during the day (mine is after lunch). I think it is more respectful to get up and stand in the back than fall asleep in your chair.

Drink a "Monster" (low calorie Energy drink) in the morning with your breakfast ,believe me it'll keep you awake, then when you get home from work take a hot bath and drink warm Green Tea with honey. If that doesn't get you unstressed then try Yoga, it helps you stay strong and maintain your weight while helping relax your body.

I hope this helps you, it sure helped me. I used to have the same problem and these tips worked miracles for me.

NoDoz and Mountian Dew!!! I know it will probably have a really bad effect on my body after 4 years of it, but it really does work!!! That and skip breakfast until after class! Eating makes one sleepy! Good Luck!

Also talk to the professor about it and ask if you can stand in the back of the class. I went to a military college that had standing students lining the backs of most of the classrooms. Professors respect the fact that college students fall asleep pretty easy, and they are usually willing to let you stand instead of sleep!

Sounds like a little early morning caffine would not hurt. Try a cup of fresh java when you wake. Hey it can't hurt. You might also try getting your blood checked it could be low blood or a medical reason that you are feeling sluggesh.

I hope this helps.

probably try sitting in the front of the class. i also heard "Monster" is a good energy drink. dont waste ur money on red bull, it dont work (unless its in liquor). i use to take those energy pills they sell in the gas stations and they really work, however they do damage to ur liver so i stopped taking them.
