The answer is gonna be JaMarcus Russell. Give me your best reason why and I'll give you 10 points. We'll move to the 2nd pick in just a bit.

JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU
Rationale: The Raiders are notorious for placing a great deal of emphasis on a player's athleticism, and Russell fits this mold perfectly. Also doesn't Russell remind you of Duante Culpepper. Might be reason enough to get Randy Motivated again.

Also Considered: Calvin Johnson depending on what they do with Randy Moss and Porter. They could also address their offensive line needs by selecting Joe Thomas. IF they could trade down and stockpile picks that is the smartest thing to do, but the raider front office is not the sharpest tool in the shed and doesn’t have the brains to work out a good trade.

JaMarcus Russell

The Raiders need to address their QB position because Brooks is gone and Walters isn't any better. First off, the Raiders are a passing team and Lane Kiffin LOVES to throw the ball deep and downfield. JaMarcus Russell has the arm to do that. Brady Quinn's got adequate arm strength but not enough to put the ball where it needs to go.

JaMarcus Russell
but, it has nothing to do with JaMarcus Russell, a very talented, strong, accurate QB.
It's an Al Davis thing. He'll pick the best available player, whether its a Punter (and they did), a Kicker (they did that too) or a Linebacker. Davis's vision is that JaMarcus Russell, can bring back the Vertical game and throw deep. No doubt, he can do that and he can be very accurate. But, he can go the other way too. Raiders figure, if they can protect and keep him from getting sacked or he can avoid being sacked, then the offense is a threat. But, keep in mind that JaMarcus Russell has never played in a Pro-set offense, he has alway been in that Zone Read that did not require him to go through passing progressions or picking up back side blitzes. So, while I believe he will do well, he's got a bigger learning curve than Brady Quinn.

They definitely aren't trading the pick since they released Aaron Brooks and while Brady Quinn is the better QB and Calvin Johnson is the best player in the draft I think they take Russel. The reason for this is they need a mobile QB to play behind their horrific offensive line. They thought Brooks would be able to do this but that never panned out.

they should and most likely will draft JaMarcus Russel out of LSU.
they are in great need of offensive weapons and the quarterback is the center of it all. Russel is more of a project than Brady Quinn but he is bigger and has better arm strength than Quinn. he has a better chance of becoming a great player in the NFL but he probably won't do to much his first year. They are also in great need of a WR so Calvin Johnson out of Georgia Tech would be a pretty good pick as well.

If they are smart, they will trade this pick for a package of lower first round picks and perhaps an additional second round draft pick. This would put them in a position to address the many, many weaknesses of this team, for example, the offensive line. Although many would suggest they take a QB like Russell or Quinn, I would point out that even the best QB can't win games when he is running for his life or flat on his back. Trade this high first rounder for a pair of lower first round picks and an additional second round pick.

i imagine that the oakland raiders will go with bj rajj by using the indisputable fact that they had the second one worst run protection interior the league very last year and he's the acceptable protective address obtainable. i chosen him as a replace of crabtree because crabtree is completely between the slower wide recievers and al davis likes % do i coulde see them going for wide receiver interior the second one round and taking darieus heywerd bey- this guy ran a 4.30 40 backyard sprint on the combine mnaking him the fastest participant to be taken interior the draft

Very likely it will be JaMarcus Russel but what I would do is trade the pick to Minnesota for their first and second rounder and then try and sign Jeff Garcia or pick up Byron Leftwich. Use the picks and free agency to shore up the offensive line and a quarterback that Garcia can groom because I am not conviced that Andrew Walter is the future.

Oakland will trade their pick to Atlanta for Matt Schaub and Atlanta's first round pick. Atlanta will take Calvin Johnson from Georgia Tech. Oakland will take Marshawn Lynch from Cal.

Atlanta needs a go to receiver and though there are several in this draft, they need one who can produce immediately and Johnson has the body and skills to do that. Also, Atlanta would need to franchise Schaub to keep him in the future which would make him the highest paid backup ever. It gives them an oppurtunity to get something in exchange for him and not have it be a total loss.

Oakland gets their young yet seasoned starting QB as well as gets a high quality back who can do it all. The receiving core is ok and there are lots of oppurtunity for quality O-line help later in the second and third rounds. Anybody who watched the Senior Bowl can tell you there is a lot of quality O-linemen who will slip to later rounds. This also will help manage cap space for them to rebuild because they won't have to pay that high first pick QB salary.
