I did actually. I went out into the yard, stepped on a sharp rock and decided I needed to start wearing shoes. Thus! I went to the shoe store and....
OKAY! I'm sorry!! I couldn't resist. I really doubt there is a record of who exactly invented the shoe. Whether you believe in evolution or in creation (as I do) - it still comes down to the first viable man.., who figured out if his body needed clothes to protect his body, he needed something to protect his feet.
There are tribes in some countries that have never worn shoes.., and their feet are tough as leather, and can walk or run across stones and thorns with no problems. We spoiled civilized people if we were to go without shoes, our tender feet would eventually toughen up. However - those tribes I mentioned have never seen snow or a truly bone chilling night. If people went shoe-less in many places, they would suffer frost bitten feet - so we NEED shoes when you get down to the heart of the matter.

I think it was my mother!!! I was always being told to put my shoes on when I was a kid. She would find me in the backyard with a foot of snow on the ground, barefoot and yell at me to come in and put some shoes on my feet. Same thing if we were going to a store. I could run on gravel and walk on broken glass without hurting my feet. My feet were tough back then. Now I am barefoot at home from the time I get home until I have to leave again. I still do some yardwork, barefooted, but now after years of wearing shoes, it seems like the least little thing I step on causes pain. So if I have to blame someone with the idea of wearing shoes, then it has to be my mother.

humans, and even pre-humans have been wrapping their feet in skins, fur and other organic materials for thousands of years.
