I think it should because no harm can come from it. Have you ever heard of someone dying while high on weed?

more people die from acohol OD alone, drunk driving, smoking tabacco, and diseases than people die from pot, Drinking kills just as many brain cells and leaves you with a hangover the next morning

Weed should be legalized for several reasons.

There are many criminals in Jail for using or selling pot. There is a huge cost to society for keeping them in Jail. There are better uses of our criminal justice system than locking up pot heads.

If the government legalized pot, it would put the dealers out of business, and create a huge new revenue base for the government.

Pot smokers are not dangerous (as a result of being high). When was the last time you read of a pot head going on a killing rampage???

I don't currently use pot, and don't want my kids smoking it (as kids), but recognize that it's not the dangerous substance that society has led us to believe

While I don't really condone use of marijuana, I definitely think it should be legalized. It is far less evil than say, alcohol. I think it should be legalized the same way alcohol is legal. A lot of people bring up points of rare car accidents resulting from a person being high on marijuana, but the chances of getting into an accident while high is immensely smaller than while drunk. As far as use of marijuana causing cancer.. so does cigarettes, household chemicals, and dammit-- just breathing the air outside can cause cancer.

My main problem with marijuana is that the fact that it is illegal increases the crime rate. Legal marijuana means less drug dealers, less crime.. period. Making it legal will not make more people smoke it.

But, because of politics, I doubt marijuana will ever be legal. I do wish, though, for it to be less criminalized. I don't think anyone should go to jail for smoking a little pot.

I have never smoked it and never plan on it, but I believe it should be legalized.
It is less dangerous than alcohol, morre auto accidents are cause by drunk drives than "High" drivers.
I know many people with OCD type of disorders and it helps slow their mind down so they can focus and fuction in society better.

Basicly it has medicinal benefits unlike cigerettes. If we believe it should be illegal based on the bad effects to the public then we need to make cigerettes and alcohol illegal as well and we know what will happen then. So legalize it and make the rules the same as for alcohol since it can impair you if too much is used just like alcohol.

I'm sure the government could use the tax from legalized weed to fight that absurd war in Iraq. However; then how many more illegal drugs would be permitted to be legalized? There are pros and cons for controlling weed but the pros might just out weigh the cons as far as price, the closing of the weed stores at 9pm and the gov. involvement, etc. A lot to think about.

Well, here's a scenario:

A guy goes to college and gets a degree in engineering. He gets a great job which pays about $70,000/yr. Each night he comes home after a long day of work, relaxes in his leather sofa and has a beer.

How would your opinion change, if instead of a beer, he smoked a bowl?

Marijuana's health hazards are very similar to those of liquor, yet marijuana is illegal. You smoke, it kills your brain cells. You drink, it does the same. You smoke, it gives you lung cancer. You drink, it gives you liver cancer. You smoke, your inhibitions are slightly lowered. You drink, your inhibitions are WAY lowered. Why, if they're almost exactly the same in all these ways, is one legal and the other not?

People state that it's a "gateway drug". This is like saying that video games cause snipers. It's NOT the substance that caused somebody to like it. Some people love their pot, and that's their drug of choice. They don't do other drugs. Other drugs involve a heavy risk factor, and frankly, the people that are into heavier drugs are twitchy, paranoid, and violently defensive. If somebody doesn't like the hard drugs, they're NOT going to do them, especially if you're in the middle of a bunch of gun-toting paranoid meth-heads (I know, because I smoke, but I avoid all that other scary stuff.)

If somebody's going to do hard drugs, they're going to do them anyway, marijuana or not. If somebody's favorite is smoke, that's all they're going to do. And it is possible to do it RESPONSIBLY, just like it is with alcohol.

The problem with it is that most of the publicity it receives comes either from the gung-ho teen abusers or the anti- never touched a joint in my life group who knows nothing of what they speak. There simply aren't enough speakers in the middle ground. I know people who make that $70,000 a year, and are quietly responsible about their smoking, staying at home and not driving, and just chillin' with their home-boys.

What we need is a law for marijuana just like that for alcohol. You're going to have the fringe crazies, just like you do in politics, but that's a price you pay. Legalizing it will cut way down on use, just because it won't be as appealing to people looking to get thrills through breaking the law.

Let's think clearly here, people. Research it for yourself. Don't go with propaganda.

Yes. I think we are treated like children in this country and like to pretend that all these laws offer a sense of "control".

Be grown up, make your own choices as long as they don't harm others.

I also think the legal drinking age at 21 is stupid. Make it 19 and raise the driving age to 18. Driving today is complicated and you should be older with more practice.

To me if you can marry, vote, fight in a war you can have a beer--on me.

Give me liberty---please....?

Alcohol is legal, kills physically AND psychologically. It will destroy your brain cells and people have died of Alcohol poisoning. Tobacco; in the forms of Cigarettes, Cigars, smokeless Tobacco is legal. They all kill physically in their destruction of your body. So why shouldn't marijuana be legal after a certain age? Why not put the same controls on it we place on things like alcohol and tobacco.

Not only no but HELL NO!!! The last thing we need are a bunch of jelly-brained stoners driving while high or trying to operate heavy machinery while high or working while high. P.S.: If you seriously believe that no harm can come from smoking dope you need to pull your head out of the sand and get back into the real world, dude. Those articles that claim marijuana does no harm were backed by special interest groups that are trying to get marijuana legalized, so of course the so-called "scientists" are going to say what these people want them to say. And yes, I HAVE not only heard of someone dying while high on weed, I actually KNEW the guy -- he graduated from high school the year after I did and had a 4-year full ride scholarship to Western Michigan University for football. Dumb@$$ smoked a joint with a buddy of his and decided to play chicken with a train. Needless to say, he lost.
