current operating systems use hard drives to provide virtual memory right? Hard disks are slow but cheap memory - right? memory sticks have come down a lot in price; I have just bought a 3.77GB stick for £22.00. With the advent of hi speed usb providing 480mbp/s with compatible products, couldn't a flash drive be used as an ultra quick easily allocatable alternative to hard drive virtual memory . i.e. creating some serious RAM!!

Well done..good idea but Bill Gates has beaten you to it.

This exact system of using a flash drive is a feature of certain versions of Vista.

It possbably could but flash drive wear faster when used often or programs are ran from them. And hard drives access faster so I would stick with hard drives or get enough system memory where you can set your virual memory low since you wouldn't have much use for it if you have alot of memory.

i dont think so, hard drives write way faster than usb, plus certain applications running in the background of OS are requiered to write to the hard drive, so

1. it would be slower, cause of writting speed
2. it would take more system resources just to have it , kinda of defeting it own purpose
