If you have the booklet that came with your main board , it will tell you which processors are compatible , if not then view the maker's website. When you have the info you need go for the fastest cpu that is suitable as they are cheap now.The mechanics of fitting the processor are straight forward, just remember that the device is static sensitive, and take precautions.Buy some silver loaded compound and spread this thinly on the clean heat sink and the flat mating face of the cpu, this will ensure maximum heat transfer and will keep the cpu as cool as possible. Fit the new cpu following the instruction diagrams that will come with it. Think about upgrading the cpu cooling fan, the Pentium one is small and so quite noisy. Zalman make some excellent fans, I use one myself and I am very pleased with it. Get ready to enjoy a much faster computer!!
