i am 19 and my favorite music is mostly 40 years old or older! EVERYTHING that has been released in the last 20 years was influenced by the music that came before it, a lot of which is timeless. I'm offended
anyway, that said, i can't pick one favorite song. but a large percentage of the songs i love are by the Beatles, who are anything but "grandma music"

You have a point. The Beatles were very popular with folks who are now grandparents. They stopped making music in the early 70s, so if you listened to them at the height of their popularity in say 1970 and you were say 18 at the time you would be in your mid 50s now, and potentially a grandparent.

The thing about the Beatles that most of today's kids don't understand is what a phenomena they were in their day. Not that another band couldn't have done it, but the Beatles are the catalyst of what made rock and roll what it is today. There were other bands around at the time, like the Rolling Stones, but they didn't have the "it" factor that the Beatles had.

The Beatles covered a lot of older music by black artists like Chuck Berry. When Caucasian kids (who had the $) discovered what the source of these songs were, it blew the music world wide open. Prior to the Beatles, you never heard a Chuck Berry song on a top 40 AM radio station (all there was at the time).

Of course Elvis Presley was huge too, but he was primarily an American thing. The Beatles were an international sensation.

There really is no artist in todays market that you can compare to the Beatles, nobody has been able to duplicate the marketing & political impact they had and nobody probably ever will. The Beatles never set out to do what they did either, they were just in the right place at the right time with the right music.

I find myself changing stations when their music comes on the radio myself. It was great then, but that was 40 years ago. Songs like Yesterday are still great, but that song first appeared on the Help album in .....1962 (when I was 4)?

Also keep in mind that the Beatles appeared right about the time that FM radio started to go mainstream along with home stereos, long playing 331/3 albums....a lot of things converged.

So the "thing" about the Beatles is not so much that their music was that great, it's what they represent to the music industry and to your grandparents generation.

Ummm, let's see. So, you think the Beatles are grandma music because they're DEAD??? Everyone dies sometime!!! So, if your favorite singer died, their music would suddenly become GRANDMA MUSIC??? People like me listen to The Beatles and other older bands because the music is much greater than music now. Also, people like me listen to The Beatles and other older bands because we have GOOD TASTE in music, something YOU DON'T. Oh, and you know what? I'm not anybody over 20. I'm THIRTEEN!

Truth of the matter is that George or John could play circles, and write circles around Billie Joe Armstrong. If you think that's wrong ask Billie Joe himself, I PROMISE you he will agree.

See music is like building a house, you start with a good base and go up, each level has an impact on the one above it. Look into the artists that are new and find out what THEY listen to, you will get a big surprise. 95% of modern musicians list the beatles as one of their greatest influences, along with the rolloing stones.

You should learn more before you talk.

Yes, The Beatles' music is from your grandma's era...and I guess I'm old enough to be your grandma because I grew up in the 60's and 70's when The Beatles were the latest and greatest and annoyed our parents the most. In the past 40 years, it seems to me that most of the bands became Beatles immitators and that no new, innovative, creative music appeared on the scene because all the bands were trying to be the NEXT BEATLES. So, does that make the bands you listen to grandma music, too?

I'm 12 and let me tell you something missy, without The Beatles your favorite songs wouldn't even be alive. You've probably never even heard a Beatle's song before! You just think their music is 'grandma music' becasue they were a band from the sixties!

Beatles is not Grandma music. The truth is that the generations that followed the Beatles couldn't come up with anything better. That p's some young people off. Real quality is ageless and we should respect it, enjoy it and learn from it.

Doesn't that mean that your favorite music you listen to now will be grandma music in 30 - 40 years?

Anyway, I don't like all of their songs, but they do have good music. And they influenced many music artists in more ways than anybody can count and will continue to so. They've influenced people just like today's music artists will influence people.

Unless you're just trying to get a rise, you are SO wrong, it's not even funny.

I've seen kids as young as 6 getting into them, scores of teens & to people in the 20s & 30s all the way to those who came of age with them in the 60s.

Bottomline: they are decidedly Not "grandma music". They appeal to all across the board. Not many other bands can say that....
