I think America would be an outstanding name for a girl. It sounds very patriotic, and I don't think it would inflict too much teasing do you?
I'm engaged, and planning on trying to have kids soon after we get married so I'm just wondering :)

It sounds like major extremist patriotism. There's nothing wrong with loving your country but I think that's a bit extreme. I'm not sure it would inflict any teasing on her but if she ever visited another country people might find it a bit haughty or something, as if the rest of the world doesn't think Americans are arrogant enough already.

Of course that's not necessarily true but it's something to consider!

I'm not a fan but hey it's not my kid so really it's up to you.

I think America ferrera (sp?) of Ugly Betty has made the name a lot more peoplular....you are right it is patriotic.

However I wouldn't name my child that for a few reasons.....that will be teased, i have one of the simpelest names and I always got teased.....i can hear kids singing america the ugly instead of america the beutiful to her. Also what if when she gets older she hates the USA are any random thing like that? or you move to canada?

just thoughts

Let me advise you to try calling the name over a crowded playground. Then imagine the look on your child's face as to the reaction of everyone around her. If it is a reaction that you can live with use the name. If it is a reaction that you wouldn't want to ever see come up with a different name.
Personally I would never name my child after a country. It just doesn't sound appealling.

I don't think naming your child "America" is the best way to express your patriotism. I like the names Liberty, Peace, Hope, Joy; if you're looking for one of those names which "means" something. Its sincerely up to you though:) Enjoy the process of naming your children!

Like naming your kid Kazakhstan, Democratic Republic of Congo, England, New Zealand, or Ethiopia?

Nice idea that in reality will lead to nothing but teasing and bullying.

Yes Dave, it would bad Dave. Don't be so cruel, and think of your poor kid.

Depending if it flows with the future last name. Not bad tho'. Kind of neat! America Angelie! Tee hee, American Angel connotation! Good luck!

Any name that is unusual will result in teasing. A great name for our country, but not such a good idea for a child.

while I love America, it does not work as a name for a little child. How about Amelia?
