I, too, smoke every day. Let me tell you a little bit about myself...
I'm college educated and have a good job for the government. I attend work every day without fail and am good at my job. I live in a rural area and have a comfy, cozy, clean house that I own. My bills are all paid on time. I am married and have 2 children. My children are happy, intelligent, creative and well-adjusted. We are involved in extra-curricular activites...son plays baseball, daughter takes gymnastics, I play in a community orchestra. I get along with everyone from the elderly lady that I visit at least once a week that lives down the road to the young couple next door with small children. I rub elbows with a variety of people including our town's mayor and police chief. I am well liked and respected in my community. Few of these people know I smoke pot because I don't advertise it. I don't go to work stoned and I don't get in any trouble. In fact, I've never been in any legal trouble at all.
Now, it is possible to smoke pot and not be a "stoner" who does it all day and has no purpose in life. If your friend is involved in self-destructive behaviour, like she's laying out of school or work, or she's hanging around with a bunch of dope-heads that could have a bad influence on her, then you should address those issues and express your concern for her. But if she carries out her life normally, then you shouldn't worry about the pot-smoking and it's nothing to lose a friend over.

It's entirely up to you whether you report her or not but as you say, you will be losing a friend over it. I can't see how her smoking cannabis affects you that greatly other than you not agreeing with it. Your friends argument that it causes less crime than alcohol is not a bad argument, in fact it's a very good argument that is totally justified because it's true. People who sit around and smoke cannabis won't have any desire to go out and act like a tool, get into fights or generally act like a mess in public. All cannabis does is make you relaxed and for some people it's good inspiration for their work/studying. Yes it is illegal but it's legal in a lot of countries these days and does that not show you something? It really isn't as bad as the government make it out to be and people like you who just accept that the government have said it's illegal so therefore it must be terrible are very close minded. Just because you have never been around drugs in the past, doesn't mean they are bad. I'm not condoning drug use on a large scale but smoking the odd bit of cannabis really isn't the end of the world. There are probably a huge number of people who smoke it at your uni and you only know about this one girl because she is your friend.....let me repeat that.....your FRIEND! All that will happen by you reporting her is that you will get your friend in trouble, lose your friend and be well known around the campus for being a snitch. Dependant on how strict your uni is then you could also get your friend into a lot of trouble and she could get kicked out of uni. Do you want that on your conscience? If you don't like it then I would advise you to just not be friends with this girl. Or explain that you have been close to reporting her and I'm sure she will soon decide she doesn't want you as a friend anyway. Just remember, nobody likes someone who gets involved in things that don't concern them. Take yourself away from the situation and leave others to do what they want.

Personally I'd become even better friends in the hope he'd share his stash with me.
You haven't really said enough to describe the main issue here.
Is he trying to pressure you into smoking when you don't want to?
If so, that is out of order and you should tell him so.
Is he smoking so much he's lost interest in anything else?
If so, I'd gently point out that you're worried about how much he is smoking and how it's taking over his life. In this situation it's probably best not to push him too hard though otherwise you may just drive him away.
If he just likes a joint or two to unwind in the evening then I think you should just forget about. To me, thats no different from having a couple of beers or glasses of wine. It's what I do myself
and I'm not a 'waster'. I am a degree educated homeowner holding down a well paid job in a University who enjoys travelling, scuba diving, playing guitar and cooking. I've never been arrested and I've never been sectioned.

Still make your own choice. Even if you became convinced it is safe, even then you can still decide not to smoke it and your friend may not hold that against you. if you lose the friend because of this, they are not your friend! \
You can choose to try it once, you can choose to smoke it more often, and you can choose not to!!!!
It really is safe, as long as you use your head. But in most countries it is still illegal. that is what worries me. I live in Holland so I have not got that problem, but please do be careful. If you have a tendency to be depressed, then don't use it.

do some research and find out the damage that can happen if you light up every day! tell your friend about it and if he or she doesn't understand then OH WELL!!! you tried to help, but just accept your friend the way he/she is and don't judge, just as long as you don't get involved in it everything is fine... I have a few friends who smoke it everyday and I accept the whole package, you just have to be careful!! good luck...

As long as they were smoking it in moderation I think its OK! One or two joints in the evening to chill out, whats the problem?
But if they are depending on it then its a different story and you need to say something to them. Too much of it can make you forgetful and lazy. If I was in that situation I would like my friends to tell me.
Personally I think its a lot healthier than say a person who smokes normal cigarettes 40 a day, a joint doesnt have all the nasty chemicals in it and it is home made.

Just let them make their own decisions. You have to. If you dont, then they will always fail because someone will always be there to pick up the peices. The main way of people moving on and learning in life, is making mistakes. It cannot be helped. But a wise person will learn from a mistake and move on and never do it again. Wiser people learn from others mistakes, but if it just aint getting through to her/him, then just let them find out on thier own. You wont lose her/him if he does make a mistake, but you might lose them ifyou force them into something.

Well don't start smoking it yourself for a start!
If you want to keep this friend then just ask them to keep that part of their life away from you. Explain that you're not going to start dictating to them but you're not comfortable with it.
