I recently had a MRI and xray done on my back (referred by family doc) and it showed a protruding disk. I have been referred to an ortho. I started by seeing a chiropractor who also took xrays. If I remember correctly, he took xrays and said I had a bulging disk just above the sacrum. I would like to know if treated properly will I be able to do all the things I used to be able to do when I was a teen(32 now). I m currently trying to get into the Air National Guard. I have found that this diagnosis will enevitablly doom my chances of enlisment. Is there any hope for me?

I'd seek another medical opinion. I'm seeing an orthopedist. Mine was fused at 16, due to a birth defect and I was injured playing ball in HS.. I'm 53 now.. no problems with the fusion, but my lower back and hip(right) are finally giving me a problem. Dr. said it's from over use. I did not have 100% mobility in the spine after the fusion. I was never a fan of chiropractors, but they do have their place.. My MD actually did some non evasive types of treatment to my hip region. Good luck. It's not a lot of fun..

I had the same problem as you for about 8 months. I had a herniaded disk at L5-S1. My leg hurt for 8 months strait. I finally had surgery to fix it about 2 weeks ago actually. They removed 1/3 of the disk. I am only 18 and allreday have back problems... just be positive for it..
