If it were on our soil (USA), we probably wouldn't need to initiate a draft, but it would be done in a state of emergency. Why can't pressure be put on the Iraqi's to establish their own military with the assistance of military equipment instead of American and other countrie's blood?
Is it possible they aren't as interested in "Liberty" as we see it?

I don't but the training thing...talk to the boys in boot camp. If you have the desire, you should have, or be able to get those resources.

There are plenty of people that are doing more than just "surviving" in Iraq. If you want more for your future generations, you have to be willing to sacrifice yourself and not count on others to do it for you. It's called adversity and this country has had it's share. We are just another factor in their "civil war" that wouldn't be there if it wasn't for the oil. YES,

The world is full of ruthless people including our own CIA (who trained most of these ruthless people). They were fighting long before we got there and will be fighting long after we leave, so let's let them help themselves.

Before you can have a draft. You have end any real or enticed civil war. The occupiers must leave so you can get your bearings and figure out who is behind the death squads. Hint Hint The U.S. sent their top guy that specializes in death squads (counter terror) from all the Latin America wars, and the Brits just happened to have their expert at making sure the Catholics and the Protestants stayed at each others throats. They were to never make peace. That changed the day bombs went of in the Parliament buildings and Margaret Thatcher realized for the first time she herself could be a target...Mary

Its really hard for me to keep a straight face when people seriously ask a question like this. Do you really think any Americans, or ANYONE for that matter would do ANY better if they:

1. Lived under decades of oppression by a brutal dictator.

2. Lived under years of debilitating economic sanctions.

3. Were invaded by a foreign entity and had their central government, military force, and civilian infrastructure COMPLETELY wiped out.

4. Had 3 major ethnic groups competing for power.

5. Had foreign fighters and Al'Queada seeping into their country to further destabilize it and to terrorize the civilian population.

There is a POWER VACCUUM in this country. Tribal Sheiks, Religious leaders, Al'Queada fighters, and insurgents are battling it out against one another AND against a foreign occupying power, and you have the gall to sit there in your sheltered life and ask if these people just don't want LIBERTY? Spend ONE WEEK in the shoes in Iraqi and tell me how much you want liberty. I think people there are probably more concerned with day to day survival to worry about much else.

The problem is not having enough Iraqis to man an army, the problem is training them to do the job effectively, so they aren't overwhelmed by Iran and Syria.

They don't need a draft because everybody there is committed to building the new government or destroying it.
