It is always better to tell the truth. How you phrase your answer to someone is important. For example:"How do you like Jack?" You can either say, "I can't stand him" or " From the little I know about him I can honestly say that he is not my type". By so doing, you have told the truth without being hurtful.

Yes, it is better to tell the truth instead of a lie. I always say "Sometimes the truth hurts and you've got to learn to deal with it." Yeah, the truth hurts, but a lot of people get angry over the truth 'cause they subconsciously can't deal with the fact that you're tellin' the truth, but yet they'll want you to say what they want you to say.
For an example, here's a scenerio:
A wife asks her husband, "Honey, Do I like fat in this"? He'll then say "No, Baby, you don't. You look fine", knowing that she has huge rolls, regularly wears a size 12, but is tryin' to fit into a size 9. He should then speak up and say something along the lines of "Baby, why don't you try something else on? I really don't like the way that one looks on you."
I mean, you don't have to be mean about tellin' the truth, but you shouldn't beat around the bush, either.
So, in ending, yes, it is better to tell the truth instead of a lie.

Lies in the long run - only cause more problems and more hurt feelings. It's better to tell the truth in the beginning. You might have hurt feelings - but it's better than having them feel betrayed on top of it. Just be honest.

I've learnt that it is best to be honest and upfront about your feelings and opinions whether they be positive or negative, because as you rightly say if a friend finds out you've not been brave enough to tell them the truth it will cause upset, and they won't feel that they can trust you. Hope this helps :)

Sometimes it is okay to lie...thats when you don't want to hurt the person and you don't tell anyone that you've lied so that person will never find out. But otherwise, I would say, tell the truth even if that person ends up hating you.

Truth is always better than a lie. It hurts sometimes, but they wouldn`t ask if they didn`t want the truth, RIGHT???

Yes, because the truth will be found out eventually, and you don't have to remember how you answered the the question last, so you can answer it the same way.

In my country there is a proverb which says: The LIE has SMALL LEGS. It is 100% truth.

If question is "Are you my friend?" yes, better not lie. But if it's some other question like "What do you think of...". there might be some other answers apart from saying that you don't like ... More tact would be better. Questions like "Am I late?" can have answers like "Oh you are here right?" instead of saying "Yes, you are"
