honestly, it depends on how much time I have to research. Why not call the agency and check the price, then do a little checking of your own. I always use www.tripadvisor.com before booking anything new. I read the forum and the reader reviews of any and all eatery's or hotels.even the chains! I want no surprises except pleasant ones. LOL Also, you can check out guide books from library , or look at some things from them on-line. But do your home work!and always check a view user reviews! Have Fun!

For booking only air tickets or travel tickets, online sites of respective airlines are best or if you want to plan in advance www.yatra.com is best. But if you want a package of tickets, presonal vehicles, sight seeing, hotels -accomodation as per your wish then some reputed travel agencies are best. one of among is Radheshyam Travels and they are also best in Chardham yatra. www.radheshyamtravles.com and www.chardham-yatra.com is the source to see.

www.yatra.com
I never had a problem booking air tickets on this site.

For comparing fares I use www.rediff.com
It gives all inclusive fares including taxes.
It also gives the lowest 90 day fares.

Cleartrip.com also gives all inclusive afres for comparision

Other sites are:
arzoo.com
makemytrip.com
travelguru.com

For hotel bookings I use www.hostelbookers.com
