Gladly. I became homeless on 10/28/05 and remained so until 05/20/06. There is no good homeless experience, but what made mine worse is I am a trained legal assistant, with over 20 years administrative experience. But a series of health problems, legal problems for my son, and just generally bad circumstances led to my situation. I was lucky in that I found a shelter the first night, while my son slept under an overpass. But the shelter was no day at the beach either. I was in a shelter that housed women and children, and while many were people like me, just bad circumstances they were trying to get out of, a lot were crazy, and a lot were just plain lazy. Many were people who scam or whatever for a living and just came to the shelter when they had nowhere else to go. I did find a lot of available resources. The problem was, had I known those resources were available, I may never have become homeless in the first place. All in all, it probably made me a stronger person. Once I learned to deal with the "what is" and not what I wanted it to be, things got easier. When other people were complaining about their lot in life, I was in the job counseling area of a local Day Shelter on the computer. I'm 55 years old, but when all the 20-somethings were whining, I found a job. I am now the Administrative Asst to the Gen Manager of a local hotel (a franchise, not a no-tell motel), and because of the situation I came out of, I have a lot of pride in myself.
Any questions?

yes, when I was married 13 yrs ago. We were evicted from our apartment and went to New York where he had family. But he was estranged with them and we lived out of our (my) car for 2 weeks before his sister let us stay with her for a month so we could save money for another apartment. We slept in the car, we washed up in truck stop bathrooms, and we would always pick up change we found on the roads, even pennies, so we could buy a soda or a burger.
That's part of the reason why he is my ex- now.

yep. my 'aunt' kicked me out of my grandmothers house so her and her daughter could move in. my 'aunt' claimed she was going to take care of my grandmother. but i have great friends who let me live with them and while i was living with one friend, he introduced me to the love of my life and we now have our own apartment (along with a beautiful baby girl). guess i have to thank this 'aunt' for kicking me out, otherwise i might not have all that i have now. after a year, it was my 'aunt' and her daughter who were homeless because she wasn't helping with the bills and was leaving her daughter with my elderly grandmother so she could go party all weekend.
