Most of the pivotal scenes take place at night. The witches scene and the murder scene are the main ones. Also note the "out, out brief candle!" reference in Macbeth's "tomorrow" speech just before his death.

The three sisters, witches, is one scene of darkness. MacBeth in the end had misread the witches' message that he was invincible.
