When it is a very dull day (especially with dampness) and the sky is very light grey, you tend to feel miserable, drowsy, heavy (as if your blood has thickened), rigid, stiff, claustophobic and uncomfortable, you even feel uncomfortable in your own house because you can see the dullness from inside. What can you do to relieve those feelings a bit in that kind of weather?

First of all it may be symptomatic of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) which is a physical illness. Get yourself checked out by your family physician. He may perscribe light therapy and vitamin D for you.

People in northern climates often have SAD since we have cold dark winters for many months in winter.

In addition put on some of your favourite music or a favourite movie ot tv program. Indulge yourself and make summery type foods with fruit and veggies that are colourful. Find clothes that are warm but colourful.
Start writing a gratitude journal for the things you are thankful for . You'll be surprised if you really think about it how blessed you are compared to people elsewhere in your neighbourhood, country or the world in general.

I turn on lights in the rooms to brighten things up, and close the dreary day out by closing the curtains. Turn on some of your favorite "upbeat" music. It's about mind over matter.

Sometimes I work out to get myself going. If you'd rather while away the day, but just want to change your mood, keep things as bright as you can make them, and find a great book to read, or rent a movie, or plan a romantic day with your mate. If you enjoy cooking....find a recipe you've never tried and just get into doing something different. Or tackle a room you have been wanting to clear out, or a closet. It's just about finding something to focus your energies on, and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Mostly, be your own champion and do something spectacular, "In spite" of the dreary skies. Don't be a victim to the weather. I live in the north, I completely understand about dreary days. ;-)

Carpe' Diem ! (Seize the Day!)

Maybe get out and go for a drive. Maybe go to a pond nearby and just sit there and think and relax.
Or just get out of your house...
I know I was grounded a while back and I would have very boring days and I would find ways to entertain myself.
I would watch movies I loved, I would color [I'm 16, but coloring is really relaxing!], I would doodle, I would clean... Just anything to keep me busy. I didn't want to think about the fact that there was nothing to do and how lonely I was and such---so just do anything to keep your mind off of that.
Paint your nails [[if you are a girl?], take an animal on a walk[if you have one], watch a comedy...

Hope this helped.

Don't rely your mood on the sky.
Even when the day is sunny, do you walk looking up??
You just walk and get on with your little lifestyle.

Just go to a local swimming pool Put your hair in the water, or to a bike ride. Believe me, even the gloomy weather, you'll be jumping with your bike up and down and even you'll forget on a what weather day you are doing this...

jump jump now!

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone so seriously and thoroughly affected by the weather. I do know that bright light is a effective therapy for treating SAD. Here in Alaska that can be a problem during the long and dark winters.

Drag yourself out and visit a garden center with a greenhouse. The smells of damp soil and the sight of green things growing will help you a lot. Maybe something will be blooming.

This will remind you that winter doesn't last forever and the weather will break.

Seriously...it helps........

You can make a list of all the things you're grateful for, and celebrate the wonderful life you have. I guarantee this will lift your spirits and invite other positive feelings into a gloomy day.

Ohhhh that's simple! I work on my indoor hobbies... which is card making.. which I donate to the local hospital.

Sooooooooooo those dark dreary days are really great days for me.. I'm busy , I'm doing something for someone else.. that makes me happy.

Find a hobby you can do inside, quietly.... and then on those days, go enjoy your indoor hobby!

:)

Go out and do something with your time. Volunteer, go out with friends, visit family or just plain go on a mid day date with a girl/boy you like to a movie or something. Anything beats staying at home, bored.
