As a UK citizen, and proud of my nationality and my country despite its faults, I was talking recently about it and we agreed that despite being over taxed, the crappy weather, the political correctness gone mad and the chav culutre... we really would stick by this country of ours

However, with the possibility of far right groups like the BNP getting the popular vote, and the state instituted racism that would follow, would something like that make you think about leaving?

(it might me, depends the extent and brutality. I have many friends who have foreign passports but were born here and are as English as I. I wouldnt live in a country that tore families and society apart. After the immigrants, who next? Gays? Gypsies? You cant deport them, so what happens to them? I am proud of being British for the right reasons, and if I lost that I wouldnt be able to stay here)

And to the people that HAVE left, what was it that made you go? Do you consider your nationality left behind?

Me and my family are already considering leaving the UK, it just doesn't seem like a nice place to live anymore. The deciding factors for this as well as some of the things you mentioned are availability of work, house prices (I've already had a roasting this week by my work colleagues for being 25 and not having my own place) and the culture.
I mean once upon a time we used to live in a country where people actually talked to each other and you knew your neighbours name, but not now. On top of that as well we have a binge drinking culture and town centres filled with Chavs. Do I need to provide any more reasons to leave?

I also live in the UK, with the growing tensions around the world. War is probably going to come one day. If I somehow survived a war then I would move out. Also being an Asian guy, I would get the hell out of the country if the BNP came into power.

I would say; the money to do it.

But, i guess i live in an entirely different situation. I've never really liked living here. America is too big. Evangelicals are too crazy. The VAST majority of the people are either batshit insane or completely stupid. The "War on Nouns" (war on terror, drugs, christmas, toast, elmo) is enough to make me want to pick up and just walk to the border sometimes. It seems we have a very backwards way of doing things in this country, many polices and decisions do not make sense.

But mostly its the people.
i'm moving to canada,

My wife... I was born in Canada and now I am here in the UK.

The media here makes it sound like it is a zoo, but outside of the poorer parts of London, it is one of the best countries I have been to and I have been to a lot. (40+)

English life is very similar to Canada so no I don't feel that I have left anything but my family and friends behind.

Never fear the BNP they will never get in power..

I am American and I love my country. I would not, however, have a problem going to another country for a few years to work and learn about another culture. I have in fact done that before and the experience was great. But in the end, I would always come back home.

Im leaving in 4 years time, all planned out, just need to top up my pension then im off.

Why, we are over taxed, poor education, poor NHS, high crime, alcohol problems (not just the tax !!), over populated, buerocratic councils, 2 face MPs, over capitalised and materialistic business leaders.....

It is an endless list of good reason to leave the country behind,

I left Canada to live in New Jersey for love. It's nice here but it isn't the same as the Great White North. Still She is here; not there, so here I am and here I shall remain. I will always be Canadian though, I am!

Unfortunately things appear to be getting the same the world over, so rather than jump from the frying pan to the fire I will stay put and hope for improvements.

The way things are going, the right amount of money, and I'd be off. The country is fine, it's certain people who are spoiling it.
