The quickest route would be to head for the highest fat, highest sugar foods you can get your hands on. Pile on the butter, ice-cream, red meat, fast food, chocolate, cheese to pile on the pounds. Sugary carbonated drinks will help. Keep in mind that this kind of diet might help you put weight, but it is definitely not good for your health!
A healthier way to go would be to increase the sheer quantity of food you eat while sticking to relatively nutritional choices. It'll take a bit of time for your stomach to expand, but should get easier and easier. Get loads of carbs, such as bread, pasta and potatos, down your throat. Heaps of full-fat dairy will aid the weight gain. Check the calorie content of foods. The higher the calories, the better for gaining weight. Some nutritional foods, such as nuts, are very caloric while still being quite healthy. Juice is a better option than soft drinks, and still has far more calories than water (which has none).
If you want some extra help, try protein shakes. They're designed to help put on muscle, but if you aren't doing high levels of weight training, they should give a nice mix of fat and muscle.
And although exercise is generally thought of as a way to lose fat, if you over-eat but still do moderate exercise, it should translate into more toned extra weight, rather than pure blubber.
Have a big meal right before bed for maximum weight-gain impact.
Good luck!

Melissa, I'm in the exact same boat as you right now. First off, your question is NOT ridiculous! Just because you're underweight doesn't mean you have an eating disorder. My family is naturally thin with very high metabolism, but killer high cholesterol. Thin does not always equal healthy. Second, there is a way to gain weight in a good way, not just by stuffing your face with junk.
After some research, my plan is this: find an online calorie calculator to determine your daily need (I was surprised at how many calories I actually need) and keep a daily calorie count log (I was shocked at how few calories I was eating), snack often on healthy calorie-filled foods such as beans, potatoes, meats, whole-grain bread and pasta, fruits & veggies, fruit juice (not soda) etc. and keep up my exercise routine with a focus on strength not aerobic exercise (without overdoing it.) My muscle-bound husband is trying to get me to drink a protein shake a few times a day which would also help you gain weight.
Hope this helps!

Eat a lot late at night, you gain more weight that way because you're less active.

Get a gym membership and start doing some weights. I noticed this makes you gain a bigger appetite. And you will have a nice Muscular figure.

Exercise and eat pasta. You will then build up muscle mass, which will actually look attractive. Don't worry about looking like the ripped muscles of the fitness magazines. That kind of look requires way more body-building than we're talking about here.
If you experience bulemia or anorexia, please see your doctor. In any case, for any diet you should always see a doc before you start your diet.

Go for the protein, Melissa - especially meat and dairy products. A few burgers and grilled cheese sandwiches and you'll be packing on the poundage sooner rather than later.

But easiest thing you could do is exchange my body with yours. I think we would both be very happy, what do you say? The parts I have that are big - breasts, hips, bum.
i DON'T want them, and I can give it to you free.

Include carbs and meat in your foods, and have a large sunday dinner. Also, you could try to have seconds after a meal.
If this doesn't work, speak to your doctor for help & advice.
