It is called ADRENALINE. They see everyone else fighting and they get caught up in it as well. Well how many PLAYERS will fight the goalie considering all the padding they get to wear? So they fight each other.

I agree that it's for the "team". Plus, I think only goalies should fight each other and not other players on the ice because of the size of their equipment (goalie pads, etc.). Doesn't seem fair if a forward or defenseman were fighting with a goalie because they would have the advantage of being able to maneuver around better.

It's an unwritten rule in hockey that a skater SHOULD NOT fight the goalie. It is considered to be cheap, and the goalie is at a disadvantage because he is hindered by all the extra weight he carries.
Therefore, when the tension rises in a game, it makes sense for the goalies to square off, because that is acceptable. Plus, most goalies view the opposing goalie as their rival on the ice, and would love to land a few punches on him!

I think it comes down to team pride. If the game has several fights going on, the goalies will square off to save face for their team.

Well...if you're referring to that fight in Buffalo last night - probably because everyone else on the ice was going at it and they felt let out!

If you don't like it, go back to baseball. It's a team pride thing.
