If people belive in the litany said at a funeral ashes to ashes, dust to dust, then why do so many still insist on burial, as would be lot better to cremate, i know lot of peeps still need visible sign of the ones that are gone as in gravestones, but the way a lot of councils are digging up old graves to relocate the skeletons to claim back the land, means that old bodies are often stacked on top of each other in new graves

Cremation for me.

Ideally in a rocket fired into the heart of the sun to the sound of Norman Greenbaums "Spirit In The Sky".

I'm hoping that by the time I croak, this will be much more practical than it is now.

Cremation, as said ashes to ashes, also it's cleaner and let's be honest how many of us actually go to our loved ones graves on a regular basis, our loved ones are always with us in our hearts and thoughts so why go on guilt trips about not going to a grave side, As long as there is someone to talk - think about you're loved ones they will never die.

When all is said and done it is only the earthly body that is left, the outer casing to our soul/spirit. Once our spirit has left the body then the real person is no longer there so far better to cremate it - better for the environment which needs all the help it can get at the moment.

Cremation is much better in several ways.

Practical point of view -
-it's cheaper.
-it doesn't take up as much space.
-It releases all of your nitrogen and other elements back into the enviroment more effieciently.

emotional -
-it's less creepy than being worm food.
-it's less creepy than being shut up in a box.
-it's still better for the enviroment, and that's and emotional issue for me.

If you want to spend about the same as you would for a "traditional" burial, you can have your ashes turned into a diamond and wear your loved one with "bling!"

If even you move away from the ashes to ashes litany, Cremation makes more sense.

I want to be put into a large hole in the ground in Yorkshire and an English Oak planted on top, the tree will gradually absorb me and I shall go up into the branches, and feel the breeze and the rain and warm sun. Bits of me will fall to the ground as acorns and a new life will start. I will have an immortality in nature.
I am slapping a tree preservation order on the tre first, before someone chops me down

I don't want burial or cremation. I'd like to have my body tossed out of an airplane into the deepest part of a tropical rain forest. I'm sure there would be no trace of me after a few hours - after the scavengers finish.

I believe in cremation, i do not want my family to stand by my graveside and feel sad, also if someone dies of a disease and then is buried so is the disease.I know it sounds clinical but its hygienic and also cheaper to cremate someone.
I have also looked into the cost of an eco coffin, funerals are far too expensive for you to spend lots of money on a coffin for it to go up in some, the family could spend the money far better.
Also it is against some religions to cremate bodies, as they go on to an after life.A plot at a cemetery is only yours for a set number of years.

Sounds horrible being stacked on top of each other, I really don't know what is best. If you are buried you just rot and get munched on by worms and if you are cremated you are burned. I know you are dead but even so the thought of either is pretty gross but I guess something has to happen to your body.

Personal I want to be cremated. But I think most people get buried more for the living family then for the dead. Some people need to see them put into the ground.

The problem a lot of people have with cremation is that the christians over the centuries have placed a huge stigma against it and whether one is christian or not, the worry has seeped its way into their minds.
