I think that you should ask your boss if you could buy the bird. Its hard to just come outright and say "Boss your being cruel to your bird". That would probably create some hard feelings. So ask if you could purchase the bird from them. If they say no cover up the bird on weekends and when you leave on weekdays.

Don't leave the window open... that's worse. The parakeet has been hand fed, I'm assuming, and wouldn't know what to do.
Contact the humane society in your local region, and explain the situation. They will come in, and when you speak to them, tell them that you want to be anonymous, but that you are also fine about caring for the bird. (If you want to have a bird in your home, that is!)
If so, volunteer to take the bird to a "shelter", then just take it home with you.
Talk to your boss, and explain your concerns. It could be that no one hs thought about how to properly care for a keet. THey are social birds, and most definitely need social interaction.
Good luck!

If you can't take it home yourself at night or they won't let you, bring a towel or blanket in and cover the cage each night before you go home. That may help to keep some heat in when the temperature goes down at night. Birds need to be kept warm but parakeets are pretty hardy. But it sounds like if you could get them to let you take it or find it a home it would be happier. Good luck!

Offer to take the parakeet home at night and on weekends. Take it upon yourself to see that this little bird is okay.
Or next time you change the water "accidentally" leave the door and the window open.

Offer to keep it. Make sure it has food and water when it needs it. If you feel that it is being neglected, but you dont want to take it home with you, call the Humane Scociety and maybe they can take it off your hands so it can be healthy and live a better life. :)

Tell your boss that it is not right and your taking the bird give them the same choice that he or she gave the parakeet "none" or you can go to PETA.ORG and there you can find different ways of dealing with things like this

I think you should straight up tell your co-workers how you feel. Then contact your local humane society/shelter and explain to them the situation. Do what's best for the bird.
