He's best known for the poem "The Tyger".

In addition, his other poetry is well-known as well.

Thirdly, his etchings were quite important.

On a high-thinking level, he is one of the first authors whose work anticipates modern literature.

Blake etched in acid and didn't paint. His etching for the most part coincided with his poetry. Both arts dealt heavily with Heaven and Hell. Blake, nevertheless, was a madman who because of his originality is regarded as a mad genius. His poetry like "Tiger, Tiger" is better known but his etchings are more talked about among university scholars.I took an undergraduate course on Blake. Now it seems all of the money and effort I put into that course has finally paid off by answering your question.

I would say his poetry. It's too bad more people don't also really know his painting, because I think it is just as nice as his poetry.

I think most people with just a casual knowledge of Blake would know him for his poetry. However, people who have studied his work more closely will know that he also did wonderful engravings, watercolor drawings and other artwork. Check out the Blake archive for more.

His poetry was much better known, until the movie 'Red Dragon' brought his art to the attention of a much wider audience than it had previously had. 'Songs of Innocence' and 'Songs of Experience' are probably his best-known works.
