Willy Wonka and Charlie and the Choclolate factory
both are good
one is more true to the book
similar and differant enough to make good comparisons
if your looking more for similarities the two Psycho movies:basically the same movie, but their are differances and the remake does have an interesting art direction with play of color making evil happen in such beauty and 50s clothes in 1998 makes interesting surrealism.
if you are looking for very differant movies:House of Wax these two movies have almost nothing in common except a disfigured killer and human bodies exist under wax.
i hope this helps

I suggest you check out the recent remake of "Charade." The remake is titled "The Truth About Charlie." The original is now in the public domain and you may be able to find a DVD with both versions on it and that will make comparison relatively easy. Another remake of this same story is being planned but I don't know the title of that one.

How about "Vanilla Sky" 2001 a remake of the spanish film "Abre Los Ojos" 1997. It might be a good idea to compare a foreign language film with it's American remake - especially as Penelope Cruz acted in both versions.

In the comedy genre, try 'Father of the Bride.' The remake is nice & watchable, but the original is so much better. Spencer Tracy & Elizabeth Taylor. Doesn't get much better than that!
If you want to go with a suspense movie, you could try 'The Hitcher.' I have heard good things about the remake (Sean Bean is usually a good bet) and the original is so good, it would be interesting to compare them.
Best of luck!
