It reached a fever pitch right before the mid-terms and it will get worse as the Presidential election looms. I see it from Democrats too, but not nearly as much. Most of the Democrats, whether liberal or moderate, have a lot of complaints about Bush and his Administration, as do I. It seems as though the Republicans like to call that character assassination, when in reality most of what we say about this Administration is true and supported by facts - for the MOST part. There are those who take the tactic beloved by the far right - sort of like imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. Except it is misguided and makes them no better than their adversary. It's a sign of desperation among the far right when they seize on the slightest rumors as fact and flame Democratic candidates by calling them Muslims when they aren't, socialists when they aren't, murderers when they aren't, etc. They routinely reach back to blame Clinton for Bush's mistakes, cling to the already disproven idea that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, and call anyone who disagrees with them cowards, terrorist lovers, anti-American, etc. I know there are people who do no differently in the other direction, calling Bush Hitler, etc. But it's not hard to see it's lopsided and that the far right is entrenched in this sort of rhetoric on a daily basis, again, out of desperation for their precarious position in this country. If they continue in this vein, it will only work to help the Democrats in the 2008 election. The country has seen this act before and they are sick of it. They lost the moral values banner before the mid-terms and for some reason they seem to think slander, using conjecture as fact, and name calling is going to restore it. They've got a long hard road ahead of them if they don't change their tactics. They'd have to run J.C. as a candidate to get back into the White House in '08 and they know it. No sympathy from me, they did it to themselves.

Obviously you're obfuscating the war of words between Madame Clinton and Mr Obama...
And, I have the AP, Reuters, the BBC, and several other news agencies reporting that story, as the basis for my statement.

Because Republicans don't have any character themselves. They hope by assassinating someone else's character they can bring that person down to their level. Just the fact that they would practice character assassination, tells you all you need to know about a Republican's character.

Character assassination? Oh yeah! You mean like the lunatic left constantly attempts against the Bush administration!
Liberals are so blind they can't even see their own hypocracy. :\

Because "practice makes perfect," I assume. You must admit that some of the more egregious remarks are quite funny. Unfortunately, historians may not look so humorously at this time period. Note the famed "Red Scare" and Sen. Joseph McCarthy's legacy...

It's the only way they can defend their position on anything. If they're not constantly attacking, their ideology will be exposed for what it is-blatantly anti-American,totalitarian and theocratic.
Therefore, their only defense is an offense of lies and smear tactics.
Though,I've never had one have the guts to try and pull their crap to my face.I think its because they only have the courage of their convictions when there are no Liberals near them physically.
