I work in retail, operating a cash register. This is a job I've proudly had for two years and have always been liked by my customers.

On Wednesday, a man came through my line with a disgusting black smudge on his forehead...I reached under my counter and handed him a tissue while making a motion with my hand over my forehead (trying to give this gentleman the hint he needs to wipe his forehead).

Not getting the hint, the guy asked 'what are you inferring', to which I told him about the mess on his forehead.

This gentleman was IRATE and asked to see my manager...

Yesterday, I was fired from my job for not respecting others beliefs....how on earth could I get fired for telling a guy about a mess on his forehead and offering a tissue???

If I have something hanging from my nose, I would liked to be notified...

you have a serious claim there, even with what happen between you and the customer weather it was good or bad, the guy made a complaint to your boss, have you been in trouble before with your work, if not and if this was the first time, you have a claim for unfair dismissal, at the end of the day it was the guys word against you, and in those situations, normally a verbal warning is appropriate, go and see your lawyer

wow i have just read sum other answers, and they say it could be a religious believe the guy had, well if you did not know this, that guy had no right what so ever to report you, GO AND SEE YOUR LAWYER

You offended the man's religious rights... was this your first action that upset people? was this man a friend of the manager? were your intentions in disgust or in general helpfulness? My guess is that it wasnt the action but the attitude... in addition to probably other infractions.

he was 'proudly' wearing ashes on Ash Wednesday... as an outward expression of his beliefs... and you dissed him

OHHHH...stupid goose! that became them ashes the Catholics get on their foreheads for Ash Friday. Sue the employer; you could't be fired for "no longer Respecting Others beliefs" once you obviously do not comprehend what they beliefs are, you presented a tissue, he did no longer must be a dick about it...niether did yo' boss

Wednesday was Ash Wednesday. Catholics and some Protestant denominations attend church services on Ash Wednesday and have ashes smeared on their foreheads. I was raised Methodist, and we talked about Ash Wednesday but didn't do the ashes on the forehead thing. I don't know exactly why they do it, but it's a religious practice.

Chances are you were not fired from your job for giving someone a tissue. You're probably a rude, sarcastic jackass, who thinks it's cute and witty to be rude and sarcastic and it basically caught up with you.
You know movies like Borat, Jackass and all that other brainless crap, or just movies... in real life, people like that just get fired. :-)

DDDAMN THAT SUCKS. IF I WERE YOU...I WOULD SEEK ADVICE FROM A LAWYER. I THINK YOU WERE FIRED IMPROPERLY. SERIOUSLY....I WOULD SEEK LEGAL ADVICE.
