I had a bunch of virusis on my pc.My tech cleaned up my pc, told me that he would save all my files. Then he couldn't get the sound back so he did a disctructive recovery. i lost everything. Seems like I've heard it is possible to recover these files from the hard drive after this. Is it possible? Thanks, anna

This is not an easy task for an average pc user to do. You will need to purchase a program like Recover My Files. I have used it to recover files from both a Zip disk and from a hard drive. You can download the program without purchasing it, and then try it to see if it can help, if it does, then by all means purchase it. It was well worth the $70 I spent on it.
If you run into other problems with your audio, go to Driverguide.com They have the largest database of drivers. They are completely free also.

If he formatted the drive and reloaded the operating system then those files are gone. If he did a repair install then they are still there.

You were negligent. You should have regularly backed up your data. When you start having problems with your computer it should be a red flag to back up your data.

The tech was negligent if he formatted your drive.. Not being able to get the sound back is not an excuse for not saving your data. If he was unable to back up the data he should have notified you of the options available to save your data before he wiped (formatted) your hard drive.
