Assuming you go to a reputable and professional piercer to get the piercings done you will be pierced with straight barbells or CBRs and the piercing can be done anywhere from 16g and larger.
NEVER EVER go to a 'piercer' who uses a piercing gun. The gun is horrible to use and the jewelry is even worse.

Usually the earrings used have a point at the end to help pinch through the ear lobe. So I'd say, one with a pointy end to it..
It'd be painful to do it on your own though, but good luck with that! lol..

studs is what you need. they can be silver or gold. you can also get them in your birthstone or favorite color. The studs for peircing have a point on the end instead of being rounded! You can get them at Claire's or even Wal-Mart.
hope this helped!

small studs, nothing fancy, but something thats comfy and will match with everything, because you have to leave them in for awhile.
