I am a mother of 2. It is certainly normal for infants to chew or suck on their hands. Is this your first child? At this age I don't know that trying to take away their hands from their mouth will teach the child not to do it. I would not be concerend at this point. It seems a little early. Keep up the good work for having concerns about your child.

they have little sock/gloves to put over the hands if he's hurting them or scratching himself... but if there is no harm being caused I would just let it go, he'll grow out of it or find his thumb (which is what happened with my son). Let him comfort himself anyway he can if it's not hurting him (at this early stage at least)

My son has always done this. He's 18 months old and still does it a little bit. I guess they just grow out of it.

Don't stop him, this is a natural process. Mouthing things is how baby checks out his world. Give a baby something and it automatically goes to the mouth to be explored!

By all means do not stop him. This is how babies learn. he will eventually start chewing on everything else too.
Enjoy your son! Write down EVERYTHING new he does, someday you will be glad you did.

He'll grow out of it, unless he is looking for his thumb.
There is very little things he can do, and babies explore with their mouths. His hands are in perfect reach.

If it really worries you talk with your Dr at your next checkup or just simply offer him a pacifier when he does this. It is normal for babies to explore their world with their mouth. Just watch out for paper, my little one is mobile and everything goes into her mouth! Good luck

there is nothing wrong with this, babies naturally have an urge to suck, get used to this ,for the next year and a half or so ,he is going to put ,or try to put EVERYTHING he touches into his mouth!! Thats just what babies do!!
