you mean the type where the winner loses and the loser gets appointed by the supreme court? the type where the loser's brownshirts physically shut down a vote count and ballot boxes went home with county commissioners on election night?
even if it was still a jeffersonian masterpiece here, the sad fact is that our multiple invasions of other nations has been about securing access to resources - whether bananas or oil. spreading democracy is as important to the men who conjure these wars as preserving democracy here is.

What? Allow the regime of a man whose sons rape 12 yr old girls to stay in power? Allow a regime to stay in power, with an International Community upset at it for not abiding by the treaties they signed, with only an oblique "or else"? I love the way some people try to use smoke and mirrors to make their point seem valid.
This notion you are throwing out with your question has been asked since the sixties. And, now we see Viet Nam has finally decided to join our club, instead of China's... I wonder why? Maybe because we make enough money to be able to do for our people?
Oh my God! Not a thumbs down!!! I'll just die!

There is one theory that democracy will promote world peace and well being. This (I believe) is one of the cornerstone concepts of the neo-cons. But if you look back at history, its not a viable plan. How many of the old 'empires' are still around? Aside from that, IMO, its morally wrong.

The U.S. of A. is not a democracy, it is a republic. Therefor, the U.S. of A. can not spread it's type of democracy to anywhere.

Democracy by the point of a gun is, in and of itself, an oxymoron. Also, just because you have a democratically elected government, it doesn't necessarily mean that it will support American foreign policies.

No, we are not obliged. But I am obliged to protect and defend our freedom for the sake of those I love.

Sure of course we are. We care about everyone and step in when any evil dictator is oppressing his people. We never install dictators or assassinate democratically elected leaders.
Not everyone can handle our "democracy"
