Certain questions on here have urged me to post something about this. I think it's a slap in the face when I and many other people of the LGBT community have fought to squash rumors about us being "promiscuous", having anonymous sex, spreading stds, etc.. Then people in our own community go around and rip it all to pieces. Most of which on this very forum alone have defended those accusations in the past.

My question is this; should we even bother trying to prove we're deep and non-promiscuous individuals if so many people are really going to be doing it and agreeing with it?

I hate bigots, but seeing this makes me just as sick as seeing a bigot spread their BS about gay people.

It would be nice if the media and the creators of prime time TV would actually portray us as that deep and non-promiscuous type of people other than what they like to depict us as. People make judgments by what they see, and not by truly knowing the real people out there. Again, just look at what you read about us and see on the news as well.

When I was a youngster and new to the GLBT life stye I really got "about." I had to sample everyone in the candy store that would let me- JUST LIKE MOST STRAIGHT YOUNGSTERS DO TODAY AND HAVE BEEN DOING FOR CENTURIES!
I finally settled down into a great partnership -which ended all too soon like a lot of straight partnerships do. Then after a good amount of time had passed someone new came into my life WITHOUT having to run the club scene. Just went to home parties and the like.
GLBTs have a lot in common with straights even if neither wants to admit it.
I agree that after a time GLB&T settle down into lasting, deep, non-promiscuous relationships but it takes a lot of time in most cases as it does in the straight arena.

You are not alone. Every group has rumors or stereotypes. People say that black women and Latin women are promiscuous, and when we try to squash those rumors, you turn on a music video and all that work is erased. I'm a straight girl, and I do not believe that all gay people are promiscuous. I know some who are, just like I know some straight white, black, latino, asian, men and women who are promiscuous.

Aqua Rose that fact of the matter is that no matter what there are bigots in any communities..you just have to move beyond that no matter what rumors are rumors....there really nothing until you start to worry about them or pay attention, just let them be brushed off your shoulder and laugh at them, there quite funny. Although you should be proud of yourself for standing up for the rest of the community, and I want to recognize you as well, let it go we are big boys/girls that can take care of ourselves...but never the less be proud that you stood up for something you believe in because few do!

Aqua Rose, some people in the LGBT are very promiscuous and vocal about it. Unfortunately, people outside the community think everyone here is like that.

Promiscuity can be found with those of any sexual orientation. There seems to be no one community with no promiscuous people in it -- and sexual addiction, which goes along wtih promiscuity, is also part of all orientations. LGBT people don't like to admit that though.

I don't think we should need to prove anything to anyone. Promiscuity isn't limited to us, and STD's are more widespread through straight people. You cannot change someones already made up mind. Regardless of facts people will see what they want to see. Just keep your head up and see past all the bullsh*t. Peace n Love sweetie pie!

Here's the thing: only a bigot or a stereotyper would believe that "all" gays are promiscious and "all" gays have STDs.

I am straight and I don't believe any of these rumors. Sure, many of these stereotypes are true for SOME gays; perhaps even the majority of gays, but that doesn't mean that it's true for ALL of them. When I meet openly gay people, I don't automatically assume that they are promiscious or slutty. In fact, most of the gay men and lesbians I know are in committed relationships.

You're arguing in absolutes, darling, and doomed to fail. All it takes is finding evidence of one promiscuous gay person and you've lost your argument.

You'd be much better off finding statistical evidence that gays are no more promiscous than straights, are no more likely to pass STDs than straights, etc. Then if someone pops up with proof of a promiscous gay person, you're still within your argument.

Unfortunately what you percieve as bigoted is your defense mechanism to deal with the inherently immoral choice in lifestyles you've made. The fact that your own cohorts are often in agreement with those who condemn their very choice should be enough of a fact to clue you in.
You can run from the truth your entire life if you want, you can buy into all the little public relations schemes the LGBT contrives, in the end, you will always be what you have chosen to be and you need to to accept that responsibility as your own.

Unfortunately that is the perception of a few bigots who just assume we do anybody we can and are attracted to anyone we see. That's why they are bigots
