i'd like to hear from you what you know about italy...
somebody here think that american people knows italy only for "mafia", "pizza", "spaghetti"... i think it'not real, but it could be useful ask you...

Well, I'm Canadian. I know that Italians often confuse "magazine" with "warehouse" because of the word "magazzino". I also know that Pasta is actually from China, Italians improved it by drying it for storage. There's more churches & gelato places in Italy than convinent stores. Pizza Hut is American. No one should drink Cappucino beyond noon. Italian guys yell "nakata" to Asian girls on the street.
Don't be upset. It's normal to have mis-conception about other cultures.

Ciao....sono americana ma vivo in Italia....
Okay, let's see:
1) Italy is full of art....churches, museums, squares, etc.
2) The food is really good, and each region and city has it's own specialties. Italian food is not only pizza and spaghetti.
3) Unfortunately, mafia does exist in Italy but it's not so big as they think in the US. I hope one day all organized crimes will end. I've been living in Italy 8 years and have never met any Italian who was a member of organized crime.
4) The capitol of Italy is Rome which is also the capitol of the Lazio region. Italy is divided into regions, and the regions are divided into provinces and then the provinces are divided into smaller cities and towns.
5) Italy is famous for fashion....designing and making clothes, shoes, etc.
6) There are a lot of tall blond hair Italians with light-colored eyes....not all Italians have dark hair and dark eyes like is portrayed in the cinema.
7) The government is often unstable..=( It seems every 6 months or so some politician is starting a new political party.
8) There are a lot of immigrants living and working in Italy.....the foreigners from other European countries are called "comunitari" and the ones from Africa, Asia, etc. are called "extra-comunitari".
9) etc. etc. etc. Scusa, ma di dove sei? Io abito a Modena. ciao ciao.

I know that the capital of Italy is Rome, the country is rich in art, the city of Venice has flooded streets, and that an island nearby is named Sicily. My history class is actually studying ancient Rome right now. I think Italians are cool.

Italy won the last world cup and is surrently #1 in soccer ( although I highly dispute that) sorry.... :)
