It does teach you another way of looking at things. For example, if I wanted to make something which calls for 2 cups of sugar, and I only have 1 1/2 cups, how can I adjust the rest of the ingredients to I can still make the cookies? I don't have to use algebra for that--but can if I want.

Daily life- not really. Perhaps those kids could use their algebraic skills when they have a job someday. Maybe just some simple algebra could be used in our daily life but not really the complicated ones.

I doubt it. I have a friend who is a doctor. He didn't use his high school trig until Med School...briefly. Kind of makes you wonder doesn't it?
