Collecting used blankets and coats for the homeless is always a good one. Volunteering with a local habitat for humanity or a homeless shelter is a good project too. Contact people who run homeless shelters and charity organizations in your area and ask them what would be beneficial.

What you can do is TEACH them:
1. Personal hygiene technique
2. Teach them how to pick out clothes.
3. Teach them how to READ. Do MATH. Speak ENGLISH. (No Slang).
4. Manners. ie How to talk to others. How to say thank you, your welcome, please, and excuse me.
Teach them to learn to do things for themselves and not expect handouts.
